Dennis Quaid Is Joining The Yellowstone Franchise
Dennis Quaid has been cast as Deputy U.S. Marshall Sherill Lynn in 1883: The Bass Reeves Story.
The Yellowstone universe is expanding even further and adding even more high-level talent to its growing cast list. Dennis Quaid has now been cast in the 1883 spinoff, 1883: The Bass Reeves Story. Quaid is set to take on the role of a Deputy U.S. Marshall named Sherrill Lynn.
Yellowstone’s 1883 spinoff was a major hit, as it starred Sam Elliott, Faith Hill, and Tim McGraw. Hill and McGraw portrayed James and Margaret Dutton, who are the grandparents of the current patriarch, John Dutton III. Now, this new spinoff will see more Dutton family members appear alongside Dennis Quaid’s Lynn.
The Yellowstone 1883 spinoff is going to take things a bit further and is meant to cover the real-life history of Bass Reeves (David Oyelowo), who we can assume is going to be friends or enemies with Dennis Quaid’s character. Bass Reeves was the first Black deputy of the U.S. Marshalls and lived quite a remarkable life. Reeves was initially born into slavery in 1838, before escaping when the Civil War broke out.
Reeves would grow up with several indigenous tribes, eventually becoming a farmer when the Thirteenth Amendment passed. He became a U.S. Marshall in 1875, who was mostly in charge of communities with Native Americans present, as he could speak many of their languages. Reeves reportedly captured 3,000 outlaws, killing 14, all without suffering any sort of life-threatening injury.
We are not sure how this real-life figure is meant to tie into the fake world of Yellowstone, but Dennis Quaid and David Oyelowo are certainly going to make for some great actors in this new spinoff. The 1883: The Bass Reeves Story show is set to be the fourth spinoff that has branched off from the mainline Yellowstone series.
Yellowstone began it all and has now produced 1883, 1923, and will later produce 1883: The Bass Reeves Story and 6666. Taylor Sheridan surely knows how to build out a universe, which he might also be aiming to do with his hit series, Tulsa King. Dennis Quaid now joins huge actors like Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, who are the leads in 1923.
There are likely more spinoffs planned for the future, but Sheridan has not yet revealed how much deeper he is going to take the world of the Dutton family. With Dennis Quaid now joining the ranks of this expanding universe, we wonder if his son will soon join too. Jack Quaid has been fantastic in The Boys, and we could see him partnering with his father in 1883: The Bass Reeves Story.
For now, everyone can watch 1923, as it is currently streaming on Paramount+. It has not yet been revealed how 1883: The Bass Reeves Story is going to connect to Yellowstone, but we would imagine there are going to be some Dutton family members in there at least. Dennis Quaid is not playing a Dutton, but he could possibly develop a hatred for the family in some way.
The new spinoff 1883: The Bass Reeves Story, is currently filming in Texas, which means we are likely going to have to wait another year for it to premiere on Paramount+. So far, all that is known is David Oyelowo has been cast as Bass Reeves and Dennis Quaid as Deputy U.S. Marshall Sherill Lynn.
