Deadpool & Wolverine Confirms Another X-Men Icon Returning
It looks like Patrick Stewart is on his way back to the MCU in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine. Deadline posted an article saying that Stewart would be reprising his role in the film, though the article was subsequently edited, and that tidbit was removed. A case of a simple editing mistake, or was someone told to keep that detail under wraps and remove it from the article?
Patrick Stewart Is Professor X
Patrick Stewart appearing in Deadpool & Wolverine certainly isn’t far-fetched, considering he already reprised the role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, though that version came to an ill-fated end at the hands of Scarlet Witch. However, there are almost assuredly other versions of Professor X out in the multiverse somewhere, and we know Matthew Macfayden’s character is a member of the Time Variance Authority. Deadpool and Wolverine will be jumping around timelines, so it would make sense to have Professor X in the mix somewhere.
Won’t Interfere With Logan
Patrick Stewart reuniting with Hugh Jackman in Deadpool & Wolverine would also be fitting after the two appeared in the Fox X-Men trilogy together, along with their supposedly “final” appearances in Logan. Since Jackman has said Logan is still canon, this presumably won’t be a version of Professor X that’s unable to control his mighty telepathic powers due to his deteriorating health. Hopefully, we’ll also get to see Professor X stick around longer than he did in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Other Returning X-Men Characters
Patrick Stewart also wouldn’t be the only X-Men character returning for Deadpool & Wolverine, as it was already confirmed that Tyler Mane would reprise his role as Sabertooth. Other eagle-eyed fans have spotted hints of other X-Men like Pyro, Toad, and Azazel in the footage released of the film so far. Undoubtedly, there are going to be plenty more cameos that are kept closely under wraps until the film is released later this month.
But perhaps the most convincing reason that Patrick Stewart would appear in Deadpool & Wolverine is his relationship with the movie’s main villain. Emma Corrin is playing Cassandra Nova, who is essentially Charles Xavier’s sister (kind of). It would make sense that these two characters would need to interact at some point in the movie.
The Appearance Fans Want
While Patrick Stewart’s cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine isn’t officially confirmed, he would certainly be a welcome appearance for fans. Although the X-Men movies have varied in quality, Stewart’s portrayal of Professor X has always been a highlight, much like Hugh Jackman’s performance as Wolverine. There are plenty of other X-Men fans who would love to see come over to the MCU from the Fox X-Men movies, but Stewart’s Professor X definitely tops the list.
The Wait Is Almost Over
Fortunately, we won’t have to wait too much longer to find out if Patrick Stewart will make an appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine. The film is only a couple of weeks away, with a July 26 release date. Deadpool & Wolverine also stars Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Morena Baccarin, Leslie Uggams, Emma Corrin, Matthew Macfayden, Brianna Hildebrand, Shioli Kutsuna, Karan Soni, and Stefan Kapicic.
