Wait, Does This Mean Someone Besides Ryan Reynolds Will Play Deadpool?
Is Marvel looking at other Deadpool actors?
This article is more than 2 years old
Deadpool is undeniably one of the most popular characters in the entire Marvel canon. Fans have been anticipating what will happen once the Merc With a Mouth has to join the ranks of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We have heard some interesting and believable rumors regarding how the Ryan Reynolds character could be utilized in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but this newest one has to be one of the nuttiest.
Insider Daniel Richtman claims that Marvel is considering having multiple Deadpool characters show up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Does this mean that Ryan Reynolds could end up playing Wade Wilson? Highly unlikely. Reynolds has become synonymous with the Deadpool character, so this should not be taken as a rumor that Marvel is trying to recast the role.
Instead, it ties in with a lot of the rumors we have been hearing about Marvel’s upcoming plans with their take on a multiverse. The idea of introducing many different Deadpools from different universes certainly sounds in line with some of the other wild multiverse stuff we have been hearing about. And a character like Deadpool would easily be able to navigate the absurdity of such a concept by pointing out how screwy it is for comedic effect.
Plus, Deadpool is a character that has experience rubbing shoulders with alternate universe versions of himself. There was even a Deadpool Corps at one point that collected together a number of alternate universe Deadpools for a multiverse-saving adventure. Some of these members included the likes of Pandapool, Dogpool, Headpool (a flying zombified head), and the not-so-creatively named Lady Deadpool. Suffice to say, there are plenty of absolutely off-the-wall iterations of the character that could be a part of this plan. And yes, some of those would probably end up being played by someone other than Ryan Reynolds.
So could someone besides Ryan Reynolds play Deadpool if this is true? Yes, but Ryan Reynolds will still ALSO be playing Deadpool
In fact, it kind of makes all the sense in the world to go this route for Deadpool 3. Fans are going to expect something pretty momentous for the third outing in the series, and especially if it is going to fall under the auspices of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After the big team-up of characters we got in the previous film, it would definitely be pretty enticing to see the next installment focusing on a motley crew of Deadpools from across dimensions. And it would be a killer poster that would sell the idea instantly if you just saw Deadpool surrounded by a bunch of other ridiculous riffs on himself.
This is a total rumor at this point so don’t get too attached to this idea. It very well could just be a spitball that got stuck on the idea wall for the time being. As long as Ryan Reynolds is involved, we aren’t too worried about what is going to happen with Deadpool 3 right now. We know it has been saved and that we are supposed to be getting it in the next few years. Whatever story the eventual filmmakers have in store will be cool by us. If that story happens to feature a multiverse crossover of Deadpools? We are on board. If not? Still on board.
