Deadpool 3 Is Saved
Deadpool 3 might have just been saved by a massive deal.

Deadpool 3 has been teetering on the edge of oblivion for quite some time now. The director of Deadpool 2 has moved on to another project, and even Ryan Reynolds has been pessimistic about the movie’s potential future. However, if a new rumor is true, the Merc With a Mouth might have just been saved by Hollywood’s greatest bargaining chip: lots of money.
According to the rumor, Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige wants to sign Ryan Reynolds for Deadpool 3, but that would only be the tip of the iceberg. Reportedly, Feige wants Reynolds to agree to the biggest deal in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This means that Reynolds would be signed to appear in numerous Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, including feature films and television series produced on platforms like Disney+.
This would seem to be the best way to ensure Deadpool 3 gets made, but it also brings into question the particulars of the rumored deal. Saying it is the “biggest deal in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe” means we have to look back at previous deals from other MCU performers. Samuel L. Jackson and Sebastian Stan each had signed deals to appear in nine pictures – though, how that factors into television series like The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and the upcoming Nick Fury show aren’t clear – so it sounds like Reynolds would be appearing in ten or more MCU projects as Deadpool.
Deadpool 3 would assuredly be part of this deal, but it also means that the character of Deadpool could be getting his claws trimmed a bit in order to fit with the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hopefully, that does not mean that Deadpool’s solo outings would lose their ability to be R-rated. There has been scuttlebutt that Deadpool could become the new cameo character for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, replacing the position once held by Marvel Comics luminary Stan Lee. This would be a fun and creative way to have Reynolds fulfill his contractual obligations, and it could also act as a longterm setup for how to bring the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Audiences have proven that they have a fondness for Deadpool and Ryan Reynolds’ take on the character. It would be a waste for Marvel to discard Deadpool 3 at this point, especially since their newest phase of projects looks to be pushing boundaries as to what we can expect from the Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. If Deadpool could exist within the PG-13 Marvel Cinematic Universe while also continuing his solo career as an R-rated comedy vehicle, it would be a win-win for both parties. Plus, if the inclusion of Deadpool into the Marvel Cinematic Universe could open the door to other R-rated takes from the MCU – making Blade a PG-13 would be extremely disappointing – that would be a real benefit for the variety of the franchise.
No matter what, we are just happy to hear that Deadpool 3 is potentially off the chopping block. We hope we’ll hear some official confirmation from either Marvel Studios or Ryan Reynolds. Until then, we will be eating our chimichangas with cautious optimism.
