Deadpool 3 Confirms The Return Of The Most Important X-Force Member

Deadpool 3 brings back Rob Delaney as Peter.

The Merc With a Mouth is coming back, and he’s not alone. The list of actors joining Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool 3 keeps growing; Deadline reported that Rob Delaney will return to the Marvel franchise as X-Force’s only human member, Peter.

Peter was introduced on screen in 2018’s Deadpool 2. He joined Deadpool’s superhero outfit, X-Force, on a rescue mission that saw nearly the entire team horrifically killed while parachuting from a plane. Zeitgeist’s acid vomit melted Peter during the wild sequence following an unfortunate gust of wind.

In a crazy mid-credit scene, Deadpool uses time travel technology from Cable, played by Josh Brolin, to go back in time and save Peter. He also saved his fiance Vanessa, played by Morena Baccarin, who had been killed earlier in the film.

Marvel has kept its mouth sealed about Deadpool 3 plot details, but the addition of Rob Delaney signals that more characters will return to the series than initially expected. The first two Deadpool films were produced and distributed by Fox. Deadpool 3 will be the first in the franchise since Disney acquired Fox and folded its superhero division into Marvel Studios.

When the move originally happened, Ryan Reynolds was the only actor in the Deadpool franchise said to be safe in his role. Later, Reynolds announced that Hugh Jackman would reprise his role as Wolverine in Deadpool 3, and returning actors Morena Baccarin, Karan Soni, Leslie Uggams, Stefan Kapicic, and Rob Delaney have been announced in recent weeks.

Those actors will reprise their roles as Vanessa, Deadpool’s cab driver Dopinder, his roommate Blind Al, and the X-Men member Colossus. Rounding out the cast are newcomers Emma Corrin, best known for Netflix’s The Crown, and Matthew Macfayden, of Succession fame.

Little is known about Deadpool 3, and the return of Rob Delaney does little to fill in the puzzle pieces. The film has been teased as a road trip through the multiverse, with actors like Tom Hiddleston and Jonathan Majors rumored to appear in the film as Loki and Kang. Cameos from other Fox-era Marvel heroes like Chris Evans’ Human Torch and Halle Berry’s Storm have also been teased, though none are confirmed.

Deadpool 3 is not the only major project on the slate for Rob Delaney. The busy actor and comedian will also appear in Matthew Vaughn’s espionage film Argylle and the Tom Cruise-led Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. He will also appear in the romance drama Love at First Sight and in Season 6 of Netflix’s sci-fi anthology Black Mirror.

Deadpool 3 is not expected to deliver the return of Ryan Reynolds, Rob Delaney, and the rest of the Deadpool gang until November 8, 2024. The film is directed by Shawn Levy, who is new to the franchise, but not to Ryan Reynolds. Levy directed Reynolds in 2021’s Free Guy and 2022’s The Adam Project, and he will reunite with Hugh Jackman after directing the actor in 2011’s Real Steel.

Just what Marvel is cooking up for Deadpool 3 is still a mystery, but the returns of fan favorites like Rob Delaney and Morena Baccaro offer exciting possibilities for the film. There is a lot of Marvel between now and Deadpool 3, and the film will likely comment on it all.
