The Next Big DC Superhero Movie Being Deleted From WB Servers, Will Never Be Released?
Fans have been questioning the fate of Aquaman 2 for months as the studio fails to promote the film before its December 20 release. Some have even wondered if it would be scrapped due to Amber Heard’s legal troubles and James Gunn rebooting the DC Universe. According to Screen Geek, the studio didn’t want to spend a lot of money on marketing as they didn’t believe it would succeed.
A new report suggests Warner Bros will refuse to release Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Meanwhile the company releases a teaser to prove the reports wrong.
As reports of Aquaman 2 being dumped began to spread on social media, Warner Bros released a teaser stating that a full-length trailer for the film would drop on September 14. Although the teaser is just 30 seconds long, it offers an exciting glimpse of what fans can expect from the eagerly anticipated sequel.
The Aquaman 2 clip includes a face-off between Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Black Manta, with the latter saying, “I’m going to kill Aquaman and destroy everything he holds dear.” There is also a selection of action-packed snippets from the movie, along with a clear view of Dolph Lundgren reprising his role as King Nereus.
While there is a chance that Momoa might reprise his role as a different version of Aquaman in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU, nothing has been officially confirmed after Aquaman 2.
Aquaman 2 is directed by James Wan from a script by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. The story sees Black Manta determined to take down Aquaman and avenge his father’s death. This time, the villain is wielding the power of the mythic Black Trident, which unleashes an evil ancient force. Arthur turns to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former King of Atlantis, to defeat him.
The unlikely duo must set aside their differences to protect their kingdom and save Aquaman’s family and the world from destruction. While there is a chance that Momoa might reprise his role as a different version of Aquaman in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU, nothing has been officially confirmed after Aquaman 2.
At present, Aquaman 2 serves as the final chapter of the DCEU. In addition to Momoa, Abdul-Mateen, and Lundgren, the film features Patrick Wilson, Randall Park, and Amber Heard. Temuera Morrison and Nicole Kidman also reprise their roles as Arthor’s parents, Tom Curry and Atlanna, the former queen of Atlantis.
Jason Momoa As Lobo?
With the fate of Aquaman unknown after Aquaman 2, there has been speculation about Momoa taking on a different role within the DC franchise. While no official confirmation has been provided, rumors suggest that the actor might portray the antihero Lobo in the revamped DCU. Created in 1983 by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo is a hulking, white-skinned alien with a penchant for violence and destruction.
His signature appearance includes red eyes, black hair, and leather clothing, often seen with a cigar in hand. Despite his ruthless demeanor, Lobo possesses a code of honor and unwavering loyalty to his word. Throughout his comic book history, Lobo has encountered iconic DC characters such as Superman and Batman, often clashing with their ideals.
His popularity soared in the 1990s thanks to his irreverent, over-the-top, ultra-violent character. Lobo’s portrayal has varied, from a darker and more serious tone to a comical and satirical approach. Regardless of interpretation, Lobo remains a memorable figure in the DC Universe. If his days as Aquaman are over after Aquaman 2, Jason Momoa would be the perfect actor to play the character.
