Canceled DC Movie Leaks Online, Are Other Canceled Movies Coming Next?
DC canceled project, Scooby-Doo! And Krypto, Too!, has leaked online.
Break out the Scooby snacks because everyone’s favorite talking dog just made it out of the Warner Bros. landfill! Movieweb reports that Scooby-Doo! And Krypto, Too!, a movie that DC canceled after its completion, has somehow made its way onto the internet. You can watch the movie in its entirety here. (Update: As of now, Scooby-Doo! And Krypto, Too! has been taken down.)
Scooby-Doo! And Krypto, Too! follows a team-up tradition started by The New Scooby-Doo Movies in the ’70s. The newly leaked Scooby-Doo adventure finds the gang crossing paths with Superman’s famous pup Krypto as well as several other DC mainstays. The DC canceled movie features several voice-acting legends, including Nolan North, Tara Strong, and Fred Tatasciore.
Scooby-Doo! And Krypto, Too! was just one of the many victims of the 2022 merger between Warner Bros. and Discovery. Batgirl and fellow Mystery Inc. project Scoob!: Holiday Haunt were also lost in the great content purge. The DC cancelations were an attempt by the newly christened Warner Bros. Discovery to save a couple of billion dollars in taxes via write-offs.
Now that Scooby-Doo! And Krypto, Too! has been leaked to the public, could Warner Bros. Discovery’s other shelved projects be far behind? Perhaps the one featuring a certain caped mistress of the night? It’s no secret that many DC fans were upset when Batgirl was canceled and would love the chance to finally see Brendan Fraser’s Firefly as well as newcomer Leslie Grace as the titular heroine.
The release of Batgirl or any of the other projects DC canceled depends upon whether there is anything to release. Many times in the past, when a film was canceled, it was physically destroyed. There’s a strong possibility DC may have done the same with Batgirl to avoid it ending up on The Pirate Bay sometime down the road.
On the other hand, in the digital age, nothing is ever really gone. Batgirl and any other movies DC canceled are most likely on a hard drive somewhere, just waiting for someone to come across them and make a copy. The question is not so much will Batgirl get leaked but when.
Scooby-Doo fans might have the most to reap from a potential Warner Bros. leak-fest. Along with the DC-adjacent Scooby-Doo! And Krypto, Too! the studio also canceled Scooby-Doo! and the Mystery Pups and Scooby-Doo! and the Haunted High Rise. Either project would be preferable to Velma, judging by the fan response online.
Unfortunately, any shelved series or movie that ends up online runs the risk of doing so in an uncompleted state. Often when a movie like DC’s Batgirl is canceled, it’s done at a point where the film hasn’t finished post-production. This could mean the movie is missing a score, special effects, or even whole scenes that were going to be added in post.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League, possibly the most famous DC project to be canceled and later find its way out of limbo, required over $70 million to make it “releasable.” That’s on top of whatever Warner Bros. already spent to film the superhero epic. If Batgirl or Scooby-Doo! and the Haunted High Rise do get leaked, they could be borderline unwatchable.
With any luck, the Warner Bros. vault will prove to be just as flimsy as Disney‘s, and fans can judge for themselves.
