David Harbour’s New Film Is The #1 Movie On Streaming
David Harbour's new supernatural comedy We Have a Ghost is number one on Netflix.
With filming for the final season of the Netflix hit Stranger Things beginning in May 2023, many fans of Stranger Things actor David Harbour are wondering what is in store for him after the series concludes. Fortunately for the actor, it seems that fans can’t seem to get enough of him. According to a report from Flix Patrol, the new David Harbour-led comedy film We Have a Ghost is the number one movie on Netflix in the US today.
We Have a Ghost is about an introverted teen named Kevin who finds a ghost named Earnest residing in his house. When the two start to uncover some mystery leftover from Earnest’s life, they unwittingly find themselves at odds with the CIA.
Starring David Harbour as Earnest and Jahi Di’Allo Winston as Kevin, the cast is rounded out by a number of fan-favorite actors. The film features performances from Marvel star Anthony Mackie as Kevin’s father. Jennifer Coolidge engages audiences with another one of her signature bonkers character actor performances, this time as a campy TV paranormal medium interested in the spectacle of having a ghost on television for ratings. Comedian Tig Notaro gives her own brand of hilarity by playing a washed-up paranormal scientist.
The total list of starring actors is Jahi Di’Allo Winston, David Harbour, Anthony Mackie, Tig Notaro, Jennifer Coolidge, Erica Ash, Isabella Russo, Niles Fitch, Faith Ford, Steve Coulter, and Major Dodge Jr. This stellar cast full of widely recognizable actors could be part of the key to the movie’s success.
Chris Landon was tapped to write the screenplay and direct. He has worked on titles in the horror/thriller genre like Disturbia, Happy Death Day and its sequel Happy Death Day 2 U. He is probably best known for writing entries in the found-footage horror film Paranormal Activity franchise, penning Paranormal Activity 2 and subsequent films in the franchise, most recently 2021’s Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin.
Many fans became familiar with David Harbour when he garnered international recognition for his role as Jim Hopper on the Netflix science fiction smash hit Stranger Things. Hopper got his star acting on Broadway in a 1999 revival of The Rainmaker before making his first appearance on-screen in an episode of Law & Order. Harbour donned the mantle of the demonic titular character in 2019’s Hellboy, and also joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe when he portrayed the aging hero Red Guardian in Black Widow, a role which he will reprise in the upcoming Thunderbolts.
David Harbour’s We Have a Ghost has seen success despite mixed reviews. Its Rotten Tomatoes score is sitting at 45%, while its IDB score is currently 6.2, neither of which is a stellar endorsement of the film’s quality. Still, fans seem to be enjoying it, and it’s hard to deny commercial success.
With the success of Stranger Things and his rising stock in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, David Harbour’s profile could be part of the allure of We Have a Ghost. This could be a case where it is less about being a critically-lauded film and more about being a film that is fun, with a recognizable cast of talented character actors that appeals to a broad fanbase.
