David Corenswet Superman Revealed In The Perfect First Look
Have no fear; David Corenswet’s Superman is here. James Gunn finally gives us a look at Corenswet in his full Man of Steel super suit, and it looks pretty awesome. Gunn took to the Threads platform for the reveal, which shows Clark putting his red boots in an apartment while a massive laser lights up the sky outside.
The New Superman
James Gunn, who is directing and writing the film, previously revealed that David Corenswet’s first outing as Superman won’t be an origin story. Corenswet’s casual demeanor in this pic and the battle-worn suit make it seem like this is a version of Clark Kent, who has some experience in the field. This should be a nice change of pace from the dour and dark version of Superman we saw in the now-defunct DCEU.
Change Of Pace
David Corenswet’s suit also seems like a faithful recreation of Superman’s classic look from the comics. We see the blue and red color scheme and the big S on the chest, and most importantly, it looks like James Gunn is bringing the red trunks back after Henry Cavill’s version simply had a belt. The suit isn’t quite as bright as the comics, but it also looks like it’s taken a beating.
Fans Are Hopeful
In any case, it seems like James Gunn and David Corenswet are set to give us the brighter and more light-hearted Superman that fans have been asking for. Superman will be the first film of the DCU, so there’s a lot riding on it. But, so far, everything that’s been announced about the film has fans hopeful.
Many More DC Characters To Come
David Corenswet’s Superman won’t be the only DC character introduced in the film. Along with Supes, the film will also star Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and Maria Gabriela de Faria as the Engineer. Milly Alcock is also rumored to debut as Supergirl ahead of her starring role in the DCU film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Corenswet’s Breakout Role
David Corenswet is best known for his roles in series like The Politician and We Own This City, which makes Superman his biggest blockbuster role to date. Based on this picture, Corenswet certainly looks the part, and fans are excited to see what James Gunn’s new DCU will look like. Nailing the tone and setting a high bar early on with Superman will ensure the success of this new interconnected cinematic universe.
Superman Kickstarts A New Cinematic Era
Currently, it looks like we will get one DCU project before David Corenswet’s Superman is released in 2025. The animated series Creature Commandos is already in post-production and is expected to hit Max before 2024 is over, which means this will be our first look at Gunn and his co-CEO Peter Safran’s initial slate of projects titled Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters. Stay tuned, and we’ll keep you updated on that project, Superman, and any more breaking DCU news.
