Dave Bautista Won’t Play His Favorite DC Villain, But He’s Teasing Playing The Biggest Bad In The DC Universe
Fans want Dave Bautista in the DCU as Lex Luthor, and apparently the Guardians of the Galaxy star likes the idea.
As DC Studios fans are anxiously awaiting to see what CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran will have in store for the DC Extended Universe, a recent post on Instagram gives viewers something new to get excited about. The post hinted that Dave Bautista could be a good fit for the notorious supervillain Lex Luthor, showing a side-by-side comparison of the two. Bautista commented on the post, saying “I never thought about that! And now I’m not going be able to stop thinking about it,” leading fans to believe he could be down to take the role, according to Yahoo Entertainment.
Currently, the pro-wrestler turned actor is working with Marvel playing Drax the Destroyer in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. With the film slated to be released in May this year, Dave Bautista will have some free time on his hands. In the past, Bautista has hinted at his desire to enter the DCU, however, a clear path for the actor has not yet opened up.
With his background in wrestling, many fans saw Bane as the perfect character for Dave Bautista to embody. However, Bautista noted that he no longer has the strength or longevity to be the right man to play the infamous villain. With DC set to enter a new era under the masterful hands of James Gunn and Peter Safran, Bautista notes how you have to be able to plan 15 years into the future, and he just doesn’t see himself being able to portray Bane for that long.
Even with Dave Bautista shooting down the possibility of playing Bane, he seems very open to the idea of portraying Lex Luthor. The DCU version of the role debuted in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice back in 2016 and was played by Jesse Eisenberg. However, it is unlikely Eisenberg will reprise the role with Gunn and Safran seemingly removing a few early Zack Synder films from the DCU’s continuity.
Plus, with Henry Cavill no longer playing Superman, it opens up the possibility of Lex Luthor being recast as well. The notorious supervillain quickly became a fan favorite in the DC Universe. With Dave Bautista’s likeability, he would be sure to fit seamlessly into the villainous role, however, we will have to wait to see what’s in store for the next Superman movie.
For now, fans looking to see Dave Bautista on the big screen have a few exciting projects to look forward to. In the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, fans can see Dave Bautista portray the vengeful warrior Drax the Destroyer. Most recently, Bautista starred in the M. Night Shyamalan movie Knock at the Cabin.
Even though today Dave Bautista is known for his acting career, he got his start as a pro wrestler. As a wrestler, he found massive success, winning six world championships over his 10-year career. He was able to bring that grit and determination with him to the big screen when he transitioned to acting, making many fans believe he would be the perfect addition to the DCU.
