Dave Bautista Does The Same Thing To Honor His WWE Career In Every Movie
Dave Bautista made the successful move from the WWE to a serious acting career years ago, but he never forgot his roots. In a recent interview with ComicBook, Bautista revealed that he’s been sneaking his signature move, the Batista Bomb, into his films and that we’ll see him do it next in My Spy: The Eternal City over on Prime Video. Talking about the move, Bautista said, “I’m trying to squeeze it into every film,” adding, “You know, it’s one of those Easter eggs.”
The Batista Bomb
For those who aren’t familiar with Dave Bautista’s signature move, the Batista Bomb involves his opponent getting picked up over his shoulders and slammed down to the ground on their backs. It’s a pretty powerful move and would no doubt look cool on screen. If you check out My Spy: The Eternal City, you’ll have to watch out for the move in the film, especially since Bautista is apparently going to try and work it into every film from now on.
My Spy: The Eternal City
Of course, Dave Bautista likely won’t be performing his WWE special in every single movie from now on unless he never plans on leaving the action genre. Though it would be pretty funny to see it randomly fit into a romcom or a prestige drama. However, it might have undercut his ability to give a subtle and nuanced performance, as he did in Blade Runner 2049.
But as long as Dave Bautista is starring in an action film, it seems likely that WWE will make the cut. My Spy: The Eternal City is definitely an action film.
My Spy: The Eternal City is the follow-up to 2020’s My Spy and sees Bautista and Chloe Coleman reprise their roles from the first film. The Eternal City follows Bautista’s CIA agent, JJ, as he reunites with his protege Sophie, to stop a terrorist plot against the Vatican.
A Hall Of Famer
Dave Bautista has been out of his WWE career for a while, but fans still remember his run fondly. The wrestler-turned-actor started out in the 2000s and eventually claimed the titles of WWE Champion and World Heavyweight Champion before leaving in 2010. Bautista would return to the ring in 2014 before officially retiring for good in 2019.
Breaking Through In Hollywood
Dave Bautista’s major breakout role after the WWE was Drax the Destroyer in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, a role which rocketed him into superstardom for his action, comedic, and dramatic chops. He’s since appeared in major franchises like Blade Runner, Dune, Knives Out, and the Shyamalan film Knock at the Cabin. But you can check him out in his latest role, along with his signature Batista Bomb, in My Spy: The Eternal City on Prime Video now.
Dave Bautista Won’t Stop Acting
After that, Dave Bautista has plenty of other upcoming projects on his plate. His next film will be the action-comedy The Killer’s Game, so maybe we’ll see him do some WWE moves in that film, too. He’s also set to star in the George R.R. Martin adaptation, In the Lost Lands, and will play a villainous role in the upcoming animated film Aang: The Last Airbender, which follows the characters from the original series as adults.
