As we creep closer to the highly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, fans have been waiting for any sign of life from everyone’s favorite space-based oddballs. Today, we are thrilled to be able to share some sneaky first looks of Dave Bautista and Pom Klementieff as they make their way to a filming location. The images reveal Klementieff in her Mantis makeup complete with antennae sprouting from her forehead. Hopping out of a car, the actress is decked out in her civilian gear, complete with a backpack and iPhone in hand. This is a whole new side to Mantis! Meanwhile, our quick look at Bautista’s Drax the Destroyer shows the jacked actor in full makeup, covered in a blue sheet and walking around the set. To his side, someone is holding up an umbrella which could help stop the sun from creating any makeup issues. Bautista is known for hating the long and dreadful makeup regiment that goes into bringing the rough but funny Drax to life, so perhaps a PA has the job of being his makeup guard.

It’s been a long while since the Guardians of the Galaxy have graced our screens. The last film came out all the way back in 2017, long before the world knew about the Tiger King, extreme face-tuning, and pandemic bubbles. Truly a simpler time. While the universe has changed in unimaginable ways, we can expect that our brave group of otherworldly heroes has stayed much the same. While plot details surrounding the upcoming film are being kept tightly under wraps, we may get an idea of what’s to come when Thor: Love and Thunder lands on movie screens across America in early July. In case you forgot, when we last saw the Guardians, they were shipping off with Thor (Chris Hemsworth) by their sides. The entire team, Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldaña), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Nebula (Karen Gillan), and even a foul-mouthed and brooding teenage Groot (Vin Diesel) can all be expected to make appearances in the next story surrounding the God of Thunder.

Seeing a makeup covered Dave Bautista and attanae donning Pom Klementieff is the first step on our journey to sitting as an audience and gazing at the fully formed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 when it comes to theaters next spring. That’s an awfully long time to wait, but we know they’ll make it worth it. Following countless scheduling issues for director James Gunn who had a full docket between DC’s Suicide Squad and DC and HBO Max’s Peacemaker, plus the ongoing struggle to film during the COVID-19 pandemic, we are just happy to see the cameras finally rolling on set. The good news for Marvel lovers is that the superhero based universe has been growing in size and churning out almost more content than we can keep up with. We are but a little over one month away from the May 6 release of Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness which is sure to blow our socks off in the same way that Spider-Man: No Way Home did just a few months ago. Meanwhile, Moon Knight just made its way onto Disney+, telling a darker tale that also tackles mental health issues. We see these new releases as the silver lining of waiting so long for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to make its debut, and we hope this helps you cope too.
