Darth Vader is set to make an evil-ly fantastic return to the Star Wars universe in the next couple of years. With the massive hit of The Mandalorian franchise on Disney+ and the sheer number of shows coming down the pike on the streaming platform, we are going to be treated to all sorts of character reunions as well as different animated characters getting live-action versions as well. And one of the latest rumors, from insider Daniel Richtman, has a coming fight between Vader and Ahsoka Tano coming sometime in the near future.
We already know that Darth Vader is coming back in a big way to Star Wars with news that Hayden Christensen will be returning to the character in the new Obi-Wan Kenobi series. This is set to likely pit the two younger versions against each other following the timeline of Revenge of the Sith. But this latest rumor about him facing off against Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano could happen in that timeline as well. Apparently, the Jedis (or former ones at least) will meet following Tano’s introduction on Season 2 of The Mandalorian.
But of course, the timeline around this kind of thing is a little fuzzy. The Mandalorian takes place after the events of Return of the Jedi where we know that (spoiler alert) Darth Vader dies. This is where we first meet the Ahsoka Tano character in the live-action version as well. But the Hayden Christensen version of Vader happens at the end of Revenge of the Sith. According to loose timelines, this is roughly 30 years difference meaning the Ahsoka character would have to be much younger. That being said, Jedi age differently, just look at Yoda, so having this meet-up happen decades before might not pose all that many aging challenges.
The Mandalorian has seen such massive success both with longtime Star Wars fans as well as bringing on a new generation of viewers. And with these new shows, we are set to see these gap years really start filling in with characters like Darth Vader. The popularity of the program has brought a renewed interest in other narrative arcs even if they aren’t in the same exact timeline. That’s the case with Obi-Wan Kenobi which will have Ewan McGregor reprising his version of the character. It was inevitable that he and Vader would find some way to cross paths
As for Ahsoka Tan0, her show will be in The Mandalorian timeline with Dawson in the lead role as the character. It’s unclear what exactly the new show will be about in terms of antagonist but there’s great speculation that her character will be seeking out Grand Admiral Thrawn. Could there be a sequence of events in this new show that flashback to a conflict or meeting with Darth Vader? That could make sense as well. It wouldn’t fit in the prescribed timeline, but with all actors filming their respective shows, the hurdles to clear that kind of meeting would be all that tough.
See what The Mandalorian has started? It’s set forth a sequence of creativity and world expansion that is going to get us live-action versions of Darth Vader and Ahsoka Tano actually meeting each other. It’s just awesome.
