Daredevil Netflix Characters Returning To The MCU
When Daredevil: Born Again was first announced, it was already a disappointment to many fans because of reports that the show would not feature Elden Henson nor Deborah Ann Woll (who played Foggy Nelson and Karen Page, respectively). As great as Charlie Cox is as the titular hero, fans understandably wanted to see more of the supporting cast that made the original Netflix Daredevil show so great. Now, it seems the prayers of fans have been answered: a new report claims that both Henson and Woll will now be appearing in Daredevil: Born Again.
For fans of these talented actors, the fact that they will be returning for Daredevil: Born Again is the good news. The bad news is that we don’t know to what extent the characters of Foggy and Karen are going to appear in the new series. It may be just a few episodes or, more disappointingly, they might only return for a single ep.
Neither Elden Henson nor Deborah Ann Woll would likely have ever come back for Daredevil: Born Again if not for the writer’s strike and actor’s strike of 2023. Those strikes ground production of many films and shows to a complete halt, including the new Daredevil series. That gave Marvel executives time to review the footage that had already been shot, and it sounds like they didn’t really like what they saw.
Marvel didn’t openly badmouth the work of those who previously worked on Daredevil: Born Again, but after reviewing the footage, they gave previous head writers Matt Corman and Chris Orr the boot and brought in Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead (who did great work directing episodes of Moon Knight and Loki) to direct all remaining episodes of the show. The duo will also be looking for ways to incorporate some of the existing footage into the new show, giving the series as much of a creative reboot as possible.
Reading between the lines, it sounds like belatedly bringing the characters of Foggy Nelson and Karen Page back for Daredevil: Born Again is a result of the creative reboot the show has received. Another result is that our titular hero will be suiting up earlier: reportedly, Matt Murdock didn’t originally get into the Daredevil costume until the fourth episode of Born Again, and Marvel wanted to get The Man Without Fear into action sooner. Now, it seems they have wisely decided to bring back the amazing supporting cast that helped bring out the humanity within our tortured hero.
Those actors will be joining fan-favorite Vincent D’Onofrio, and the return of his Kingpin character means we can look forward to at least one more showdown between Daredevil and the Kingpin of Crime. Unfortunately, we don’t have a firm release date for Daredevil: Born Again, so we don’t know exactly when our hero will be locking horns with his fearsome foe. Fans who have watched all of Echo know that in his own way, Kingpin might now be just as “born again” as his vigilante enemy.
