Daredevil: Born Again Falling Apart Saved Netflix Marvel Shows
With Marvel going into a more adult age of programming – as far as its Disney+ series content is concerned – many fans wonder where that leaves the highly-anticipated Daredevil: Born Again.
Originally one of several titles under Netflix’s Marvel umbrella, the show was gritty with a dark edge – something that made it particularly engaging for viewers.
Daredevil’s Netflix Story Is Marvel Canon
When it was announced that Disney+ would be rebooting the series, audiences were nervous that it wouldn’t pack the same punch that the Netflix version did and that the title from which it spawned would be lost to time.
However, Vincent D’Onofrio is here to tell everyone this isn’t the case.
D’Onofrio, who will be reprising his role as Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin, in Daredevil: Born Again, said that Netflix’s The Defenders saga became canon during the most unlikely of times.
Daredevil: Born Again Starting From Scratch
Back in October 2023, Marvel and Disney+ announced they would be completely scrapping everything that had been filmed and produced for Daredevil: Born Again and starting from scratch with a new creative team.
While this was some of the worst news that fans would have expected, it was the show’s saving grace.
Vincent D’Onofrio Says They Are Back In Writer’s Room
As D’Onofrio explains, when the new Daredevil: Born Again team went back to the writers’ room, they did so with the plan to ensure that Daredevil and all of the other titles that fell under The Defenders banner would become part of Marvel canon.
D’Onofrio says that from here on out, the creative crew behind the rebooted series are “only speaking about it in terms of being directly connected to the original Daredevil, and that’s a great thing.” And we couldn’t agree more.
Plenty To Work With
With three full seasons of storytelling, D’Onofrio says there’s a lot of background for Daredevil: Born Again to touch on and explore.
He adds that it’s more enjoyable for the actors who were involved with the original series as well because of the “history behind us” and how it plays into the episodes of Born Again.
Defenders On Disney+
And, just in case you don’t want to take the Daredevil: Born Again star’s word for it, we’re here to tell you that if you head to Disney+, all of the Netflix shows have been added to the MCU’s timeline, putting them in order alongside the other films and shows to come from the studio.
Now, Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Luke Cage, The Defenders, and Iron Fist are all in one place, surrounded by the other superheroes of the MCU. It’s also worth noting that the Echo used a clip from the original Daredevil in one of its trailers – which is as close as you can get to Marvel shouting the canon news from the rooftops.
Daredevil: Born Again Still Not In Production?
As for Daredevil: Born Again, production has not picked up on the freshly written and styled Marvel project. Along with Vincent D’Onofrio reprising his role as the villainous Kingpin, Charlie Cox will also be back to play Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil.
Also making a comeback for the reboot is Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, aka Punisher, a character who had his own Netflix series and also appeared in Daredevil. And, while Born Again will feature a handful of new faces, we’re hoping that as filming rolls along, announcements will be made about other returning cast members.
