Danny DeVito Says The Time Has Passed For His Best Sequel
Danny DeVito wishes that his close pal and collaborator Arnold Schwarzenegger would’ve ditched the political arena and, instead, dove head first into Twins 2 with him. During a recent interview with GQ , DeVito said that the pair “missed” out on the perfect time to film the sequel to the Ivan Reitman-helmed 1988 film because Schwarzenegger was working as the governor of California. But, just because Twins 2 may never happen, that doesn’t mean that the duo will never reunite in an on-screen capacity.
Danny DeVito And Arnold Schwarzenegger Are Reteaming, But Not For Twins 2
In fact, during his chat, Danny DeVito revealed that it’s completely the opposite and that he and Arnold Schwarzenegger already have a plan or two up their sleeves. In DeVito’s own words, he said that he and Schwarzenegger “have a little thing going, a little project that we’ve been chatting about.”
Don’t worry, the interviewer got straight to the point and asked if that “project” would be a sequel to Twins. Unfortunately, DeVito crushed the fandom’s dreams when he revealed that it wasn’t going to be Twins-related but instead a story about “two friends, two guys.”
Danny DeVito And Arnold Schwarzenegger Make A Good Duo On And Off Screen
Danny DeVito went on to say that he and Arnold Schwarzenegger “have a good time together” and that the pair perfectly “complement each other,” something we couldn’t agree more with. As they’ve proved in productions including Twins and Junior, despite their physical differences, DeVito and Schwarzenegger have impeccable timing as two comedic actors playing off one another.
In Twins, Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger play long-lost fraternal twins who were genetically experimented on and separated at birth. Now grown up, when one of the men discovers that he has a brother who lives in Los Angeles near his biological mother, he takes a life-changing trip to rekindle the relationship with his family. Also starring in the feature were Tony Jay, Kelly Preston, Chloe Webb, and Heather Graham.
Triplets, A Twins Sequel Was Planned For Years
For over three decades, fans have been pushing for Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger to reunite to tell the next chapter in the story of Twins. Plans for the next movie, titled Triplets, were underway with Eddie Murphy first attached to star before he was later replaced by Tracy Morgan. Unfortunately, following Ivan Reitman’s passing in 2022, the entire project was shelved where it still sits collecting dust today.
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
As for Danny DeVito, he’s as busy as ever, continuing to work his tail off in the world of entertainment. His interview with GQ primarily centered around his role in the Broadway show I Need That in which he stars alongside his daughter, Lucy DeVito. While he’s always been known for his career-defining roles in the television show Taxi and films including One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, an entirely new generation knows him best for his long-running portrayal of Frank Reynolds on FX’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Danny DeVito Joins Chris Pine In Poolman
This year, Danny DeVito also appeared in Disney’s reboot of the film, Haunted Mansion, and will soon be spotted alongside Chris Pine in the latter’s directorial debut, Poolman. DeVito’s vocal talents will also soon be heard in Universal Pictures’ animated feature, Migration.
While a Twins 2 project may not be what Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito are currently working on, we can’t wait to see the unlikely pair together again. And with cameos from stars including Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul on the latest season, maybe DeVito could convince his old friend to join the cast of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia for a one-off episode.
