Daniel Radcliffe Welcomes First Child
Daniel Radcliffe and his longtime partner, Erin Darke, recently announced the birth of their first son.
Daniel Radcliffe first became a household name back in the early 2000s with his leading role in the young adult fiction series Harry Potter, adapted from a series of books written by the now-highly controversial author JK Rowling. These days, he’s best known for his work in smaller indie films, such as Swiss Army Man, Guns Akimbo, and Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. According to a report from The Daily Mail, the 33-year-old actor has officially welcomed his first child with his long-time partner, Erin Darke.
Photos taken by local paparazzi caught the couple taking their newborn out for a leisurely stroll in a carriage. The Harry Potter actor is known for his aversion to the spotlight in his day-to-day life, leaving him to don a baseball cap and surgical mask during public outings for privacy purposes. Of course, sneaky photographers managed to catch a few candid glimpses of Daniel Radcliffe looking well settled into his role as a new dad, warming the hearts of many 90s kids who grew up alongside the former child star.
Daniel Radcliffe’s long-time partner, Erin Darke, also comes from an acting background, with screen credits including Good Girls Revolt, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and the TBS original series Miracle Workers, alongside Radcliffe himself. The fourth season of Miracle Workers was originally slated to begin airing new episodes earlier this year, though restructuring at TBS has caused the latest season to be pushed back with no current release window. Given that the pair have brought their first child into the world after nearly a decade of dating, it seems clear that the actors are a full-on power couple.
In addition to his work as several characters on Miracle Workers, Daniel Radcliffe is also expected to voice King Jeremy on the upcoming Netflix animated series Mulligan, which is set to arrive in May. Mulligan is set to star a laundry list of incredible voice talent, including Saturday Night Live alumni Dana Carvey and Tina Fey, as well as Phil LaMarr, Sam Richardson, and The Bear‘s Ayo Edebiri. The King Jeremy credit appears to be the only slated item on Radcliffe’s upcoming IMDb, meaning it could be a while before we see the star return to the screen, with the newfound duties of parenthood taking up most of his time.
Of course, many child stars are plagued with difficulties in their lives, as show business has a terrible habit of stripping a child’s ability to engage in a normal upbringing, making Daniel Radcliffe’s perceived normality a huge breath of fresh air. Given the many pitfalls of the industry, the actor may choose to avoid bringing his new child into the spotlight for as long as possible, offering them the best shot at a relatively normal upbringing that he can. No matter how the Horns actor chooses to raise his child, we can easily say we’re very happy for his newfound blessing, and we wish the family nothing but the best in this very exciting time.
