Daisy Ridley Reveals New Star Wars Movie Is A Total Surprise
Daisy Ridley’s return to the world of Star Wars was a welcome surprise to fans everywhere when it was announced at the Star Wars Celebration earlier this year. But apparently, fans are in for an even bigger surprise when the movie actually hits theaters, as Ridley recently told Collider, “The story is really cool,” adding, “It’s not what I expected, but I’m very excited.”
For now, even Daisy Ridley doesn’t have a ton of information about her upcoming Star Wars movie, as she also said that she’s currently waiting to read a script. As for whether or not this will be a standalone effort for Ridley’s character or the beginning of a new trilogy, Ridley provided the extent of what she knew about it, saying, “I know the storyline for one film.” adding, “That’s not to say that that’s all it is, but that’s what I was told about.” At the very least, it seems like Ridley might be willing to come back for more films if the first one ends up being a success and if there’s more story to tell.
Daisy Ridley played the role of Rey Skywalker throughout the three recent sequel films, which have been divisive amongst Star Wars fans. While Ridley’s portrayal of Rey was great, the sequel trilogy’s quality wavered from film to film. The first of the trilogy was considered strong start by some, though fans did feel it retreaded some familiar ground a bit.
The Last Jedi, on the other hand, had a pretty clear line of fans who either hated it or loved it due to its subversive take on the Star Wars mythology. Finally, Rise of Skywalker was pretty much universally hated and left fans feeling cold about Disney’s handling of the Star Wars film universe. Great potential characters like Daisy Ridley’s Rey and John Boyega’s Finn were given short shrift, and even their charismatic performances couldn’t save the final film of the trilogy.
Daisy Ridley’s New Star Wars Movie Plot Involves The Jedi Order
So, fans are definitely excited to see that Daisy Ridley will be given a chance to be in a better quality film, and hopefully, Rey will get her due as a character as well. As far as the premise goes, it does seem to be taking an interesting direction. Daisy Ridley’s new Star Wars movie will take place roughly 15 years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker and will see Rey attempting to rebuild the Jedi Order, albeit probably not in the way we all expect.
Along with Daisy Ridley being attached to the project, Ms. Marvel director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will be helming the project with Steven Knight attached to write the screenplay. The distance in the timeline from Rise of Skywalker is probably a good thing, as it will give us a chance for a fresh, new Star Wars story that isn’t so closely tied to the events of that film.
When Daisy Ridley’s New Star Wars Movie Will Be Released
Right now, the release date of Daisy Ridley’s new Star Wars movie is also currently unknown. The Daisy Ridley Star Wars project seems like it’s the furthest along in the production pipeline for Star Wars films, but it’s far from the only film in the works.
Disney also unveiled that there will be a Star Wars film from James Mangold, a film from Taika Waititi, a film from Shawn Levy, a film from Dave Filoni, and a Lando Calrissian film. Rian Johnson is apparently still on board to make his trilogy at some point, but there haven’t been too many updates on that front.
