Logan Star Dafne Keen Is Joining A New Star Wars Project
Dafne Keen of Logan fame was just cast in the upcoming Star Wars series The Acolyte.
ComicBook.com reported on The Hot Mic with Jeff and John‘s podcast’s news that Dafne Keen will be joining the upcoming Star Wars: The Acolyte series. The Logan actor will join other previously announced stars that include Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Jodie Turner-Smith, Manny Jacinto, and Charlie Barnett. Star Wars: The Acolyte is created, written, and executive produced by Russian Doll co-creator Leslye Headland.
Of the upcoming Star Wars series, The Acolyte is probably the most mysterious. So far, we know that the series will take place near the end of the High Republic Era as dark side forces start to emerge. There’s no word on who Dafne Keen will be playing in the series.
The Acolyte seems like it will be something different for the Star Wars universe since it takes place over 100 years before the events of the Skywalker saga. This side of the Star Wars universe has been explored in the non-canon Legends stories and some newer canon novels, but it has yet to be explored in-depth on screen. This will give Dafne Keen and the rest of the cast a chance to bring characters to life that we’ll likely not be familiar with.
Dafne Keen had her Hollywood breakout role as Laura, a mutant made from Wolverine’s (Hugh Jackman) DNA in the 2017 film Logan. The film was meant to be a swan song for Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and Patrick Stewart as Professor X, though both actors will have reprised their roles in the MCU after Jackman appears in Deadpool 3. There’s no word on if Keen will ever have an MCU appearance of her own, but nabbing a role in one of Disney’s other major IPs isn’t a bad substitute.
Before appearing in Star Wars: The Acolyte, Dafne Keen will appear in the final season of HBO’s His Dark Materials. His Dark Materials is based on the Philip Pullman book series of the same name and follows a young girl fighting against the Magisterium, an organization that represses people’s magic and their animal spirits. Along with Keen, the series stars Ruth Wilson, Anne-Marie Duff, Clarke Peters, James Cosmo, Ariyon Bakare, Will Keen, Lucian Msamati, Gary Lewis, Lewin Lloyd, Daniel Frogson, James McAvoy, and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
His Dark Materials is entering its third and final season, with eight episodes based on the novel The Amber Spyglass. Dafne Keen once again reprises her role as Lyra Silvertongue, with Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Jamie Ward, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Simon Harrison, Amber Fitzgerald-Woolfe, Chipo Chung, Sian Clifford, and Jonathan Aris joining the cast. Although the last season came out in 2020, the final season is finally coming to HBO this year with its premiere expected to be released on December 5.
As for Star Wars: The Acolyte, we can expect to see it hit Disney+ in August of 2023. There’s plenty of time between now and then to find out more about the series, including who Dafne Keen will be playing. Stay tuned for more news about The Acolyte and all other Star Wars scoops.
