The Crime Thriller Series Everyone Is Going Nuts Over

If Mr. and Mrs. Smith sounds familiar, you might be thinking of the 2005 film of the same name that stars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. This is intentional because the film inspires the series, which follows two highly skilled assassins, John (Glover) and Jane (Erskine), who are also married. The TV series was co-created by Glover and Francesca Sloane as part of Glover’s major deal to produce content for Amazon Prime Video.

It seems like Mr. and Mrs. Smith brings the action you’d expect from a spy thriller while mixing in some of the comedy and surreal elements fans have come to expect after Glover’s Atlanta. It’s good to see the show finally make it to the streamer after it had some initial troubles getting off the ground. The series was initially announced in 2021 with Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge attached to create and star, with Sloane as creator and showrunner.

Waller-Bridge left Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and Maya Erskine took over her co-lead role. It seems like everything came together in a good way because audiences and critics are enjoying the series. Along with Glover and Erskine, the series has a star-studded list of guest stars, including Michaela Coel, Ron Perlman, John Turturro, Paul Dano, Sarah Paulson, Alexander Skarsgard, and Eiza Gonzalez.

It seems like Donald Glover’s post-Atlanta career over at Amazon Prime Video is off to a promising start. Glover signed a huge deal with Amazon Studios to create various TV shows and films, with the TV series Swarm being his first project released. The quality of Mr. and Mrs. Smith bodes well for Glover’s other upcoming projects with Amazon.

Of course, Mr. and Mrs. Smith isn’t the only thing that Donald Glover has in the works right now, as Glover is also set to co-write the upcoming Lando Calrissian film with his brother, Stephen Glover. Glover played the role of a young Lando in Solo, and fans have been eager to see him return to the role. While Disney was originally going to make a Lando series, the project pivoted to a film, though there’s no word on when we can expect to see it.

Donald Glover also confirmed that he would be returning for the long-awaited Community film, though there’s no news on when we can expect that film either. With the whole cast staying busy, like Glover with his Mr. and Mrs. Smith series, there are likely some scheduling things to work out. With that being said, fans are just happy to hear the movie is coming together at all.
