2022 has proved to be an exciting year for Courteney Cox. The actress reprised her fan-favorite role as newscaster Gale Weathers in Scream, the fifth movie in the decades-spanning franchise, and even reunited with her old pals from her career-defining gig on the legendary series, Friends. But, 2023 is quickly shaping up to be another winner for the actress who, according to Comic Book Resources, is being eyed for a role in Marvel Studios’ Wonder Man

While nothing has been confirmed at this time, a source close to the website has shared the news that Courteney Cox is in talks with Marvel to dive into a role on the upcoming Disney+ series. The production will see Yahya Abdul-Mateen II jumping from DC to Marvel to play the titular Wonder Man aka Simon Williams. Also confirmed to be signed on for the series is Sir Ben Kingsley who will be making his return to the super-hero franchise after appearing in Iron Man 3, the short film Marvel One-Shot: All Hail the King, and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

The story of Wonder Man centers around a well-known Hollywood actor and the son of a wealthy industrialist who was given the gift and curse of ionic energy, leaving him with the powers of superstrength, flight, electromagnetic manipulation, and several others. With rumors just beginning to swirl surrounding Courteney Cox’s involvement in the Marvel production, there’s not been any word as to who she could be portraying should she nab the role. Plot details for the series are being kept under wraps, but we do know that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton will be working alongside Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Community writer, Andrew Guest, to develop the series.

Courteney Cox’s rumored Marvel casting is just the latest in news surrounding the superhero universe with updates on projects including Deadpool 3, Ironheart, and the recently released Black Panther: Wakanda Forever seemingly rolling out on the daily. Just last week it was revealed that Parks and Recreation star Aubrey Plaza would be joining the cast of Agatha: Coven of Chaos alongside the previously announced Kathryn Hahn and Emma Caulfield. While it’s anyone’s guess as to who Plaza will be portraying in the production, one artist recently took to Instagram to share his hopes of The White Lotus actress taking on the devil herself, Mephisto

Meanwhile, Deadpool fans were treated to some exciting news when Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman revealed that Jackman would be returning to his role of Wolverine for the upcoming third movie in the Deadpool franchise. Having last appeared as the X-Men member in 2017’s Logan, it seemed highly improbable (and even impossible) for Jackman to be donning the character’s sick set of mutton chops and heading back to set, but here we are. A studio known for keeping its fans happy, it’s entirely possible that Courteney Cox could be the next big name to join the Marvel family.

As for the Cougar Town star, Courteney Cox will soon be seen in Scream 6, which will be slashing into theaters earlier than expected on March 10, 2023. The last original actress to be appearing in the feature, we’re praying that she doesn’t catch the sharp end of Ghostface’s knife in the film’s latest installment. A name synonymous with the Scream universe, we’re keeping our fingers crossed that Courteney Cox will also transition her talents to the Marvel franchise in Wonder Man.
