Thanks to a competition known as the “Jump Next Generation Battle Manga Award,” the next hit anime might be in the process of being conceptualized right now. This competition is looking for a short, one-shot story that could potentially be turned into a long-standing Shonen manga alongside famous series like My Hero Academia, Kaiju No. 8, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and One Piece.

The Panel Of Judges

Big names are in charge of judging this Shonen manga competition. Tite Kubo (Bleach), Yuki Tabata (Black Clover), Kouhei Horikoshi (My Hero Academia), and Gege Akutami (Jujutsu Kaisen) are the judges for the contest.

Those who want to join the competition to show off their Shonen manga will have the opportunity to do so between October 1, 2024, and January 20, 2025. Both professionals and amateurs are allowed to enter. Any Shonen battle manga under 48 pages is allowed.

Top Three Prizes

After the Shonen manga submissions close, the four judges will have a few months to look over the works and come to an agreement on the winners. There is no exact deadline set yet, but the announcement as to who wins is set to come sometime in March 2025.

The top three Shonen manga submissions will not only get a prize amounting to somewhere between 300 thousand and 1 million yen ($2,000 to $6,900). However, that’s not the only exciting prize. The first, second, and third place winners are also guaranteed to be published in the digital edition of the Shonen Jump magazine.

Possible Anime Adaptations For The Victors

The top two contestants for this Shonen manga competition will also be published in the GIGA special edition, and the person in first place will get a spot in the print version of the magazine. Editors are set to help some of the runner-ups as well, to give them tips and tricks to improve their art and story.

Though an anime adaptation isn’t guaranteed, with Shonen manga being so popular, it seems incredibly likely that at least some anime may come out of the competition in the future. It will be exciting to see what new stories are made by competitors, and which ones get famous enough to be adapted into an anime.

Strike The Iron While It’s Hot

It’s the perfect time to do this competition. With big names in Shonen nearing the end, these magazines are likely looking for new anime to promote and help draw attention to their publications.

The My Hero Academia manga officially ended on August 5. Meanwhile, Jujutsu Kaisen only has five chapters left as of August 19, and Black Clover is in its final arc. Bleach ended a while ago, though there is currently a continuation in the anime with Thousand-Year Blood War.

Series To Watch In The Meantime

Not only are shonen manga magazines likely on the hunt for new stories to draw in readers, but the anime industry won’t be far behind. Though they aren’t immediately in need of new manga to adapt, as the stories draw to a close, animators will be looking for shows to take the place of their most famous anime adaptations.

If you are looking for new anime to watch while these Shonen manga are being adapted, Dandadan, Kaiju No. 8, Wind Breaker, and Hell’s Paradise are all relatively new Shonen series worth a watch.
