Community Star Takes Blame For Movie Delay And It’s Not Donald Glover
The long-awaited Community movie will not arrive this year due to delays that reportedly resulted from conflicts with Donald Glover’s schedule. However, actor Joel McHale shut those rumors down, stating that he’s to blame and that the shooting of the Community movie is actually conflicting with his own schedule.
Glover’s Gambino Is Not Guilty
For those who aren’t familiar with the current state surrounding Joel McHale’s Community movie, the project is based on the super-popular sitcom Community, which concluded its sixth and final season in 2015. However, those behind the series have announced a movie that’s now two years in the works, with no results to show for it. Considering Donald Glover’s plans for a world tour, many believe that the Childish Gambino is to blame for the delay.
McHale’s Change In Narrative
Joel McHale previously stated that he would be shocked if the Community movie didn’t start shooting this year. Now, however, he has provided the fandom with a disappointing update, stating that the crew and the cast truly believed that the filming would begin by now—which it didn’t—while adding that the production is working around Glover’s schedule. What caused this change in the narrative is unknown, but it’s not outside the realm of possibility that the reigns of a heavy workload changed from Glover’s shoulder to McHale’s, causing further delays.
Dan Harmon’s Timeline Isn’t Great
According to sources, Joel McHale’s Community movie might start shooting next year, as vaguely suggested by the actor himself, but considering the troubled production, those forecasts are basically speculation. Series creator Dan Harmon previously confirmed in 2021 that he had begun work on the script and that most of the logistical issues associated with the production were solved. He also stated that the movie could be expected in between one and eight years—three years have passed thus far, Dan, where’s our movie?
McHale’s Movie Marching Forward (Slowly)
The Peacock streaming service announced that it ordered the movie in September 2022, following an outrageous bidding war among distributors for the rights to Joel McHale’s Community movie. The filming was supposed to begin in June 2023, but it was delayed due to the Hollywood labor disputes, with the actor stating that the movie should begin filming in the summer of 2024. The summer is now here, and the only things that fans of the Greendale’s most notable students has received thus far are excuses and zero results.
However, not all news associated with the Community movie is bad.
More Updates To Come (Hopefully Soon)
The Jeff Winger actor also stated that nearly the whole cast is making a comeback in Joel McHale’s Community movie, including the Mr. & Mrs. Smith star himself, Donald Glover, Yvette Nicole Brown, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Jim Rash, and Ken Jeong.
Chevy Chase, who portrayed Pierce Hawthorne in the series, most likely won’t return to the series, most likely due to legal reasons, as suggested by Dan Harmon. The actor’s tenure on the series was filled with drama behind the scenes, and he exited the series during its fourth season after he reportedly made racist remarks towards Donald Glover.
That one piece of information is shrouded in mystery, with different sources singing a different tune. However, one thing remains unchanged: Joel McHale’s Community movie most likely won’t make it to any screens near us this year.
