Coke Pepsi War Movie From Steven Spielberg Is Happening

Steven Spielberg is set to produce a new film called Cola Wars. With Judd Apatow signing on as director, the year-old $1 million pitch is finally on its way to the silver screen.

Pepsi Vs. Coke

Cola Wars will depict the power struggle between big-name soda companies, Pepsi and Coca-Cola, which started in the mid-1980s. Specifically focusing on Pepsi’s attempts to dethrone Coca-Cola’s near century-long reign as the king of pop.

Since Cola Wars’ proposal, audiences have been curious about what Spielberg’s vision is for this corporate underdog movie. With production now in the works, the wait should be over soon.

The People Behind The Camera

The original pitch for Cola Wars was written by Jason Shuman and Ben Queen. Both are seasoned veterans within the industry, Shuman writing for projects such as HBO’s Winning Time and Apple TV’s Acapulco, and Ben Queen working on The Addams Family 2, Cars 2, and Cars 3.

With a cinematic legend like Steven Spielberg backing the project, it’s fitting that the production team is chock-full of Hollywood pros.

Judd Apatow will be serving as director for Cola Wars, which is reported to still be in its initial stages of development.

With titles like Knocked Up, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Superbad, and The Bubble under his belt, audiences are certain that Apatow, along with Spielberg, will knock the highly anticipated Cola Wars right out of the park.

Spielberg’s Amblin

The film will be produced by Steven Spielberg through his company Amblin Entertainment. Founded in 1980 and named after Spielberg’s first commercially released film Amblin, the American production company carries a prestigious reputation.

Soon Cola Wars will join their already impressive resume, sitting alongside Jurassic Park, Men in Black, The Land Before Time, Back to the Future, and Gremlins, just to name a few. Almost all movies produced under the Amblin banner turn into commercial successes, a testimony to their all-time gross box office profit of nearly $15 billion.

Maia Eyre

Deadline, who was first to report the news, confirmed that Maia Eyre also would be working in tandem with Steven Spielberg, overseeing Cola Wars for Sony Pictures.

She was recently promoted by Sony to SVP of Creative Development at Columbia after her success with Anyone but You. Starring Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney, the R-rated romantic comedy grossed more than $214 million worldwide.

More News To Come

Eyre has also worked on other iconic releases such as the recent Jumanji movies and Greta Gerwig’s Academy Award-winning film, Little Women. Those eager to see Cola Wars should be comforted by the sheer amount of combined success that Eyre, Apatow, and Spielberg will bring to the set. By accolades alone, it would be hard to find another team as powerful as this trio to handle Cola Wars.

With the development still in its initial stages, much of the details surrounding Cola Wars remain a mystery. However, many audiences find relief in the fact that the film finally made it out of the pitch deck and into the lap of a production team who seems to consistently excel in their work.

More developmental details should be revealed in the next couple of months as the project moves forward; stay tuned until then.
