Just when we thought Cobra Kai had given us all the action they had, they dropped a Season 5 trailer that was so high energy, we won’t need our morning coffee. Buckle up, because the dojo rivalries are headed to the next level with bad guy Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) preparing to leave his mark on the city of angels by opening up dojos as far as the eye can see. But, he’ll have some competition. Although Miyagi-Do Karate had to shutter its doors following the events of Season 4’s All Valley Tournament, nothing can deter Danny LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) from putting himself in the way of Silver’s “no mercy” style teachings. And this time, he’ll have some help.

As Danny faces off against Silver in the trailer, Chozen Toguchi (Yuji Okumoto) steps forward to let the adult bully know that Danny isn’t alone in his quest to bring down the deadly Cobra Kai. Ready to fight for the kids who are in Silver’s harmful way, Danny and Chozen will need to rely on each other more than ever to come back from the closure of Miyagi-Do Karate and do what’s right.

Meanwhile, Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) is on a journey of his own. Traveling to Mexico with his son, Robby (Tanner Buchanan) at his side, Johnny is speeding off to the border in hopes of finding Miguel (Xolo Maridueña). At the end of Cobra Kai Season 4, audiences watched as the young karate student disappeared after the All Valley Tournament. We later discover that he’s set out to Mexico in hopes of tracking down his father. The new side plot of Robby and Johnny adventuring out of the country to find Miguel seems like it will be a piece of buddy-cop style comedic relief with a side of butt-kicking karate moves.

Finally, it looks like Danny and Chozen are going to bring Johnny in to help them take down Silver and his chaos causing dojo once and for all. Sais, bo staffs, and of course plenty of kicks and punches abound in the trailer for the upcoming season of Cobra Kai. Oh, and there’s a clip at the end in which we see Silver in what appears to be a sauna talking down to Danny, so we can’t wait to see what that’s all about! The good news is that we only have four months until we get our answers as the show has revealed a Season 5 premiere date of September 9.

Cobra Kai acts as a continuation to the beloved Karate Kid franchise films of the late 1980s. Bringing back characters and storylines over the franchise’s original three film run from 1984-1989, the series centers on the titular dojo owned by the ruthless Terry Silver. A favorite among fans of the original karate flicks and newcomers alike, the series also stars Mary Mouser, Dallas Dupree Young, Vanessa Rubio, Courtney Henggeler, Martin Kove, Jacob Bertrand, Oona O’Brien, Gianni Decenzo, Griffin Santopietro, and Peyton List.
If you’re behind on the series or thinking you need to get a move on it before the Season 5 debut, you can check out all previous seasons of Cobra Kai on Netflix where it’s streaming now. In the meantime, stretch it out, iron your gi, and mark down September 9 for the return of Cobra Kai.
