Cobra Kai Season 4 Is Delivering Two Major Fan Demands And It Sounds Awesome

The Karate Kid has stood the test of time. Nostalgia has created a space to revitalize properties from the ‘80s and ‘90s. But the fans agree that with Cobra Kai, it really works. With Cobra Kai season 4 upon us, there are a few changes that will be implemented when the series returns. Recently writer Hayden Schlossberg took to Twitter in a Q&A and promised to give spoilers. The writer gave two vital pieces of information in regards to the upcoming season.
Schlossberg confirmed that Cobra Kai season 4 will have more montages and longer episodes. Montages are of course necessary when honoring a property from the ‘80s. Musical montages help convey story information and were often seen in movies of the time. The longer episodes are also important. Some fans on Twitter complained that it was too easy to binge the show as most of the earlier episodes ran around 30 minutes (via MovieWeb). While this run time is being seen more frequently in popular shows including The Mandalorian, it is understandable that fans want more content. Schlossberg has promised to deliver.
If Hayden Schlossberg’s name sounds familiar, it’s because he has been attached to many popular series even before Cobra Kai. His first notable writing credit was Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle as well as American Reunion. It was recently announced that Schlossberg will also be involved with American Pie 5 (per MovieWeb). His work speaks for itself and like The Karate Kid, has proven its longevity.
Fans are chomping at the bit for Cobra Kai season 4, hoping to see more of Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso. The two characters famously became rivals in 1984 in the original The Karate Kid. The film is full of memorable quotes with a moral about how to overcome bullying. In the original film, LaRusso was the main character and Johnny Lawrence the antagonist. At the conclusion of the film, the two enter in a karate match with of course LaRusso coming out victorious.
Cobra Kai has a different perspective, which works for the show. Thirty years after the events of The Karate Kid, Johnny Lawrence is down on his luck and unemployed while Daniel LaRusso is the owner of a successful car dealership. Johnny becomes inspired to re-open the Cobra Kai dojo when he finds his neighbor Miguel being bullied. The show flew under the radar at first partly because it was part of the YouTube Originals programming (via Mashable). Though YouTube has since canceled its premium shows, the first season of Cobra Kai maintains a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes. The show ran for two seasons under the YouTube programming before getting picked up by Netflix. This seems to have been the best thing for the series, evidenced by — among other things — Cobra Kai season 4 getting picked up even before season 3 had aired.
Twitter isn’t the only medium that is abuzz with anticipation for Cobra Kai season 4. The show has become so popular that even Tick…Tick…BOOM! actor Andrew Garfield has become obsessed with it (via CNN). He stated his affection for the show and a hope for a new season to which the cast of Cobra Kai responded in kind. The cast recorded a message for Garfield, assuring the actor that a new season would soon be upon him. Garfield and fans alike will not have to wait much longer. Season 4 of Cobra Kai will premiere on Netflix on December 31st.
