Deadline reported that Obliterated, the new Netflix series from the creators of Cobra Kai, has announced 11 new cast members. The new cast members include Carl Lumbly, David Costabile, Virginia Madsen, Minnie Mills, Costa Ronin, Lindsey Craft, Tobias Jelinek, Lori Petty, Clive Standen, Ivan G’vera, and Keston John. They join the previously announced cast that includes Nick Zano, Shelly Henning, Terrence Terrell, Alyson Gorske, C. Thomas Howell, Paola Lázaro, and Kimi Rutledge.

Obliterated will follow a Special Forces Team that deactivates a deadly bomb in Las Vegas and goes out to celebrate their victory. However, the now intoxicated team discovers that the bomb is a fake and they have to save the world for real this time. Nick Zano and Shelly Hennig lead the series with Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald on as creators and executive producers. With a large and talented cast announced, the hype for Obliterated is certainly building.

Along with announcing the cast, we learned who a lot of the cast members will play in Obliterated. Carl Lumbly is playing CIA Director Langdon who is the boss and mentor of Shelley Hennig’s character Ava. David Costabile will be playing an antagonist named Maddox, who is a black market operative. Costa Ronin also played an antagonistic role as an arms dealer named Ivan Koslov.

Lindsey Kraft will be playing a lounger singer named Yani, Tobias Jelinek will be playing a lethal operative, and Minnie Mills will be playing Jen, the daughter of special ops pilot Paul. Jen heads to Vegas for a prom after-party and accidentally gets wrapped up in the mission. Virginia Madsen, Lori Petty, Clive Standen, Ivan G’vera, and Keston John all have guest roles on Obliterated.

Obliterated is set to have eight hour-long episodes on Netflix with a release date that has yet to be announced. If the series manages to capture the same success that Cobra Kai has brought Netflix, we can probably count on a lot more projects from Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald for the streaming giant. Cobra Kai recently enjoyed a successful fifth season release and signs point to the sixth season coming in the future.

Netflix has good reason to back Obliterated and the Cobra Kai creators. Cobra Kai recently was listed as number one on Nielsen’s top streaming series list for the week of September 5 through 11, with over 1.7 billion minutes viewed across its 50 episodes. It even managed to dethrone Amazon Prime’s Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

If Obliterated can rack up billions of minutes of viewing, the Cobra Kai creators will have a bonafide streaming track record of attracting people to their projects. Of course, Cobra Kai has the benefit of being a known entity since it was a spin-off series from The Karate Kid. Obliterated is a brand-new IP, so it will certainly have to prove itself in the crowded streaming landscape.

As Obliterated continues to move forward in production, there’s sure to be more news on the way. We’ll keep you updated on any release dates, trailers, or new cast members. In the meantime, check out Cobra Kai on Netflix if you want to see what the creators can do.
