As if you ever needed a reason to watch it for the first or 100th time, the classic 1995 movie Clueless is now streaming on Peacock. Already rising through the ranks on the streamer’s Top 10 chart, the movie is in fourth place, so Just Go with It, Abigail, and The Bikeriders better watch their backs because Cher is primed to attack!

Clueless

The ‘90s was a decade for some of the most quotable and memorable cinema of all-time but there’s just something about rom-coms during that period that hit differently. For example, Garry Marshall’s Pretty Woman would kick things off in 1990 with Gil Junger’s 10 Things I Hate About You closing out what was perhaps the most perfect 10 years from the genre that we’ve ever seen.

Right smack dab in the middle was the star-studded Amy Heckerling film, Clueless, which pushed its main cast further into the limelight and even gave one big name actor his breakthrough role.

Paul Rudd

Don’t worry, we won’t keep you holding onto that cliffhanger any longer as the actor who got his start in Clueless was none other than Marvel’s very own Paul Rudd. And you won’t believe your eyes as, between Clueless and his latest project, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Rudd hasn’t aged a bit.

The teen comedy would also forever solidify Alicia Silverstone (Batman & Robin) as the ‘90s girl of our dreams through a role that saw her playing the vapid high school student, Cher Horowitz.

Loosely based on Jane Austen’s timeless novel, Emma, Clueless centers around Cher, the most popular girl in school, who takes the new and much less fortunate Tai Frasier (Brittany Murphy) under her wing in hopes of bringing her up to the level of high school royalty.

The Cast

If you head over to Peacock to watch Clueless for the first time, nearly every scene will have you pointing at the TV as the movie is rampant with familiar faces.

Filling out the supporting ensemble are names like Breckin Meyer (The Craft), Donald Faison (Scrubs), Elisa Donovan (Sabrina the Teenage Witch), Wallace Shawn (The Princess Bride), and political contributor, Stacey Dash.

The Legacy

The legacy that would follow Clueless after the credits rolled is a lengthy one that has seen a spin-off TV series, video games, comics, a Broadway musical, and a failed reimagining for the small screen that was initially set to arrive on Peacock.

The cultural significance is just as large when you consider the quotable one-liners that the film provided alongside the iconic wardrobe offerings that still make for incredible and recognizable Halloween costumes nearly three decades later.

GFR SCORE

For its three main players, Clueless acted as a pinnacle to the incredible careers that were to follow. The title was the second for the late Brittany Murphy who would shortly thereafter be cast in Freeway, Drop Dead Gorgeous, and Girl Interrupted, while Paul Rudd would continue his journey in Romeo + Juliet, The Locusts, and Overnight Delivery.

Considered to be one of the “it” girls of the ‘90s, Alicia Silverstone wrapped Clueless and got to work on such projects as Batman & Robin, Excess Baggage, and Blast from the Past.

To me, Clueless will forever be one of the movies that defines the ‘90s. From the storyline to the character development, acting, and – of course – iconic outfits, there’s nothing not perfect about the movie which is now streaming on Peacock.
