The Yellowjackets season 2 teaser shows us Christina Ricci in various ordeals.
Christina Ricci returns as cheerfully sociopathic former equipment manager/current nurse Misty Quigley in a teaser trailer for the upcoming Yellowjackets season 2. The video runs over just a minute and does not reveal much about the actual plot of the new season of the critically acclaimed show. Still, it is clear that Christina Ricci’s character (played by Sammi Hanratty as a teen) is not having a good time. On the other hand, this is a series about a group of teen soccer players who maybe (definitely) resort to cannibalism after a horrific plane crash, so it’s likely not a good time for anyone, not even the new Harley Quinn.
The first moments of the Yellowjackets season 2 reveal Juliette Lewis’s character Natalie Scatorccio in an odd, shadowy room, being examined by a blurry woman (who is likely Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Simone Kessell, playing the adult version of fellow crash survivor Lottie Matthews). Then we shift to a frozen, iced over door in the Canadian wilderness, and flashes of the faces of characters from the first season. And finally, we get a glimpse of Christina Ricci’s distinctly curly, blonde hairstyle and giant glasses.
The first season of Yellowjackets quietly premiered on Showtime in 2021 and unexpectedly built a huge audience and universal acclaim by the season 1 final in January 2022. The show currently holds a rare 100% Critical Rating on Rotten Tomatoes, making it officially one of the best-regarded shows on television. It has already been renewed by the network for a third season ahead of the premiere of the second, because Showtime likely knows a good thing when it sees it.
The show was co-created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson and was particularly noted for the casting of a number of actresses best known for their roles in 1990s cinema, including Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis, and Melanie Lynskey (to be joined by fellow 90s icon Lauren Ambrose for the second season). The actual plot of the show is broken into two timelines, one set during the plane crash and subsequent months in the wilderness in 1996 and the other in the current day, after the survivors have returned to civilization.
Yellowjackets became a hit due to the intricate storytelling and parallel plots, as well as the undeniable fascination with the idea that a group of championship soccer players seem to resort to canniablism and feral cuts during their ordeal. The dynamic between Juliette Lewis and Christina Ricci as a hardbitten former addict and a perky, yet unnerving nurse was noted as one of the best parts of the show, so hopefully, we will get to see a lot more of them together.
However, the Yellowjackets season 2 teaser has revealed that we will now be entering the harsh Canadian winter and things are likely about to get very gory as the team finds their food stores dwindling. In the current day, a bizarre cult seems to have kidnapped Juliette Lewis’ character and Christina Ricci is teaming up with Elijah Wood, so we are definitely looking forward to what comes next.
