Christina Ricci Says She Was Almost Sued Over A Sex Scene
Christina Ricci said she was almost sued because she didn't want to perform a sex scene in a certain way.
Christina Ricci was almost sued because of a creative disagreement over a sex scene. The Addams Family actress made the revelation during an appearance on The View, where she discussed how Hollywood has changed for women since she started her career. “Someone threatened to sue me once because I didn’t want to do this sex scene in a certain way. It’s really changed, and it’s great to see,” the Yellowjackets star said.
“Us older ladies talk about it all the time. It’s amazing to see that they don’t necessarily have to go through the things we had to,” Christina Ricci continued. “They’re able to say, ‘I don’t want to do this sex scene. I’m not going to be naked.’ They can set boundaries for themselves that we were never allowed to do,” the Wednesday actress explained.
Christina Ricci previously mentioned the lawsuit during a Variety “Actors on Actors” conversation with Sydney Sweeney. “I remember once in a movie saying I wasn’t comfortable with something, and they threatened to sue me if I didn’t do it. That would never happen now,” Ricci said in the conversation.
When Sweeney responded with, “What? Oh my God, I’m so sorry,” Christina Ricci said it all worked out in the end, though it was still a horrible ordeal. “It was fine. I didn’t do it anyway. And they didn’t sue me.” The 43-year-old actress added that conversations on various sets about intimacy and people’s comfort these days was the first time she realized things had really changed.
Women are now allowed to say they are uncomfortable, which was unheard of a few decades ago. To highlight the shift, Christina Ricci also mentioned a film called Black Snake Moan, in which she was nude most of the time. She explained that the rest of the cast and crew around her were uncomfortable, which made her uncomfortable.
So she decided to stay naked, even between scenes, to help everyone feel comfortable with her nudity. “I was like, ‘Don’t make me feel weird like I’m the person who has to be ashamed.’ I would talk to crew members naked,” Christina Ricci recalled via Variety. Sydney Sweeney has also been outspoken about how people commented on her sex scenes in Euphoria.
Despite her lack of control, Sweeney told Christina Ricci that she’s comfortable with intimate scenes as most sets have coordinators and yoga blocks between two people. Additionally, if she changed her mind about filing a particular scene, it would be scrapped. That shows real progress within the entertainment industry.
Meanwhile, Christina Ricci is set to star in the second season of Yellowjackets. The story chronicles the lives of a stranded New Jersey high school soccer team whose plane crashed in the northern wilderness in 1996. The popular drama series, created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, earned Christina Ricci an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress
Christina Ricci will also star in the upcoming cyberpunk indie film The Dresden Sun. Written and directed by Michael Ryan, the story follows a mercenary with a traumatic past who steals a valued asset from Peredor Corporation with an insider’s help. At the same time, a financial analyst who hates his job is forced to run from a psychopathic military contractor when he becomes involved with corporate espionage, Deadline reports.
Mena Suvari, Linus Roache, and Steven Ogg also star alongside Christina Ricci.
