See Christina Applegate Battle Through Health Struggles And Return To Her Best Series
Despite complications from her multiple sclerosis diagnosis, Christina Applegate is back at what she does best with a new trailer for the upcoming season of the Netflix hit series, Dead to Me.
Actress Christina Applegate is returning to Netflix on November 17 with the third and final season of her hit show Dead To Me. According to Deadline, the streamer released a new trailer on Wednesday that indicates Jen and Judy are in deeper than ever as both law enforcement and the Greek mob play a more prominent role. The latest season promises more of the twists and thrills that made the first two seasons so enjoyable, and come as a pleasant surprise as the star recently revealed her struggles with multiple sclerosis.
Christina Applegate plays Jen, a recent widow, heavy metal fan, and mother of two whose husband was killed in a car accident she was desperate to solve. She meets the free-spirited Judy, portrayed by Linda Cardellini, at a grief counseling session and the two become unlikely friends despite a cesspool of dark secrets between them that surround Judy’s ex, Steve, played by Jason Marsden. Also looming in their lives are Lorna, Jen’s domineering mother-in-law, and Detective Perez, who investigated Steve’s eventual death at the end of the first season.
When last we left Jen and Judy, the two women had been the victims of a hit-and-run car accident that left their health status questionable. The trailer shows the two women bandaged up and Jen in a neck brace, both healthy enough to be home, as well as questioned by police and packing up a lot of cash. The FBI, knowing about Steve’s involvement with Greek organized crime, has taken over Detective Perez’s investigation of his murder.
The Christina Applegate led trailer shows Steve’s final resting place and Judy’s concern that the Greeks may be after her, even though they didn’t kill Steve. Complicating matters is Steve’s twin brother Ben, who is wrestling with his alcoholism and the near-fatal crash he almost caused. Throughout the trailer, we also are treated to evidence of the enduring bond between Jen and Judy as their lives get deeper and murkier.
The show was created by Liz Feldman and her, Linda Cardellini, and Christina Applegate are all its executive producers. Will Ferrell and Adam McKay also produce the show. The first season was released in May 2019 and the second in May 2020.
Production of the third season was complicated by two major events. The first was the Covid-19 pandemic, which necessitated lockdowns and social distancing, making filming for a lot of shows and movies difficult as film sets are very close-quartered. The other issue involved Christina Applegate herself.
The star was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis last year and spoke out about her need for privacy as she processed her health condition. Christina Applegate is famously a breast cancer survivor who received a double mastectomy as part of her treatment, a personal element that found its way into Jen’s story on Dead To Me. Multiple sclerosis is a degenerative disease of the nervous system and has no known cure.
In the trailer, Jen and Judy describe themselves as “badass b—–s,” and it’s clear that Christina Applegate doesn’t just play one on TV. Despite her devastating health news, she dug deep in order to finish the story of Jen, Judy, Steve, and the tragedy and turmoil of their interacting lives. See her on Netflix on November 17, 2022.
