It’s quite a rarity to speak about a movie being pushed up. The usual case is that movies are delayed by heartbreaking amounts. Take Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, for instance. That film was meant to be released in 2022 and has been pushed back an entire year to 2023. However, the great news is that the new epic Amsterdam, starring Christian Bale among many high-level actors is being pushed up by an entire month. The film was initially going to release on November 4th but is now going to hit theaters on October 7th.

Amsterdam boasts a massive cast that includes Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, Robert De Niro, John David Washington, Chris Rock, Alessandro Nivola, Andrea Riseborough, Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Rock, Matthias Schoenaerts, Michael Shannon, Mike Myers, Taylor Swift, Zoe Saldaña, and Rami Malek. This massive cast is being led by David O. Russell who famously worked on American Hustle, Three Kings, Silver Linings Playbook, and The Fighter, just to name a few. Russell must be a fan of Bale, as he has appeared in three of the five films that were mentioned.

Amsterdam is set in 1930 and follows a group of friends that must uncover a murder plot, with many of them becoming suspects in the murder. Not much else is known about the plot of the film other than it is set up as a murder mystery comedy. Burt (Christian Bale) and Harold (John David Washington) are two soldiers who befriend a nurse named Valerie (Margot Robbie). They form a pact to protect one another but end up being involved in a mystery about a man that is murdered, becoming three of the main suspects. The film looks quite fantastic and has one of the biggest ensemble casts of 2022.

Christian Bale looks almost unrecognizable in the film, as he has wild disheveled hair, a massive scar, and a fake eye. From the trailers, it appears his injury was because of the war. We certainly do not want to get ahead of ourselves, but this film could hold some Academy Award implications, especially considering that it has been moved up to October. The fall months are the usual time when movies are released to be considered for award recognition for the following year.

David O. Russell has not directed a full-length feature since 2015’s Joy which saw him reunite with Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper, stars of Silver Linings Playbook. Joy also starred Robert De Niro, who stars in Amsterdam. Russell clearly likes to work with the same actors, and that is a good sign. A lot of those actors in Amsterdam have been featured in Russell’s previous works.

Amsterdam will premiere in theaters on October 7th, 2022. Christian Bale looks fantastic in the film, and he is joined by some high-level talent. We can’t wait to see what this film is going to be like, especially because of the amazing cast. It’s going to be great to see Mike Myers also return to the big screen as well. The last film he appeared in was Bohemian Rhapsody, which came out in 2018. Amsterdam is going to be quite an amazing feature.
