While it will be some time before we get to see Chris Pratt as Star Lord in Thor 4, we now have our first look at the actor in the soon-to-release The Tomorrow War. Amazon Studios just delivered a teaser trailer for the sci-fi flick and Pratt looks all kinds of dashing and determined as he gets ready to take on a futuristic alien invasion.
Here’s the first teaser trailer for Tomorrow War…
The teaser sees Chris Pratt as Dan Forester, a high school teacher, in action as he and other soldiers gear to go up against some mean-looking deadly aliens. As far as we know, the official synopsis for The Tomorrow War states that time-travelers from the future i.e., the year 2051 will come to the present to warn the population that 30 years from now, the Earth is on the verge to be destroyed by an alien apocalypse. The only way to stop it is for soldiers as well as willing civilians to travel to the future and help in saving their planet from its bleak destiny. We get a peek at the wasteland the aliens will turn Earth into in the teaser as well.
In the film, Chris Pratt’s character will join hands with his estranged father, played by J.K. Simmons, and Yvonne Strahovski’s character, a brilliant scientist, to make one last-ditch attempt to save his daughter and the entire mankind from a horrifying future. While this will be the first time that Pratt and Simmons have shared the screen together, the duo might have more outings together in the future as both are now part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Tomorrow War is directed by Chris McKay for whom this will be his first live-action directorial debut. Previously McKay has only helmed animated films including the hit, The Lego Batman Movie. The film’s distribution rights were initially with Paramount Pictures and it was scheduled to release in December last year. But then came the coronavirus pandemic and plans had to be changed. Amazon Studios swooped in and reportedly paid a whopping $200 million to purchase the distribution right to the Chris Pratt starrer. This makes The Tomorrow War the second Paramount release, after the hit Coming 2 America, that Amazon has acquired and will be releasing on its streaming platform.
Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios, is sure that The Tomorrow War will “be a global event” that will be a “surprise and delight” for all its subscribers across the world. She assured that McKay has crafted a unique sci-fi epic that will not only be the needed dose of adrenaline and adventure for the viewers but an emotional roller coaster as well. And of course, there is the “dynamic star power” that Chris Pratt will add to the film that is enough to amp up anyone’s viewing experience.
Apart from Chris Pratt, Yvonne Strahovski, and J.K. Simmons, The Tomorrow War, written by Zach Dean, also includes Edwin Hodge, Sam Richardson, Betty Gilpin, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Jasmine Mathews, and Ryan Kiera Armstrong. The film will be executive produced by Pratt, Rob Cowan, Bradley J. Fischer, and Brian Oliver, along with Jules Daly, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, David S. Goyer, Don Granger, Adam Kolbrenner, and Samantha Nisenboim as producers.
The Tomorrow War is all set to release on Amazon Prime Video on July 2, 2021.
