Chris Pratt Has An Actual Plumbing Service Website
Chris Pratt's Super Mario Bros. Movie has taken a unique approach to marketing with a plumbing service website.
There are many ways that franchises can create promotional material for their upcoming films. According to the SMB Plumbing website, the Chris Pratt-led Super Mario Bros. Movie has taken a unique approach to marketing. The website is a gag promotional website run by the actor’s character Mario, promoting his “business” Super Mario Bros. Plumbing.
The website touts that it is a “family-owned and operated” small business and that “fixing pipes is our game.” It features a Super Mario Bros. Plumbing commercial, a cheesy Rhymefest with bad rapping and intentionally bad acting.
The website also has an “About Us” section which gives a little background about the business’s origins. It states, “My little (but taller) brother, Luigi, and I were tired of dealing with spiky bosses, so we jumped at the opportunity to take on Brooklyn’s plumbing problems all by ourselves. Family-owned and operated, we aim to one-up the competition with our expert white-glove service.” The cheeky phrasing within this section has some clear references to some iconic aspects of the Mario franchise.
The website even features “testimonials” about the brother’s service from users “BrosMom,” “SpikeIsCool,” and “BrKlyn Couple,” as well as a “Careers” section for those interested in getting involved in the business. If Chris Pratt’s upcoming adaptation of The Super Mario Bros. Movie is anything like the website, viewers can expect the film to reference iconic elements of the video game franchise playfully.
The Chris Pratt-led Super Mario Bros. Movie is the most recent film adaptation of the Mario franchise. Two previous films include 1986’s animated film Super Mario Bros: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach! and 1993’s live-action film Super Mario Bros.
1986’s animated film Super Mario Bros: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach! takes some art style references from trends in Japanese animation at the time and was actually one of the first video game movie adaptations ever created. It is also considered a forefather to the isekai anime genre, as its plot revolves around Mario being trapped in a video game world made real. Although not widely known at the time of its release, Kineko Video recently released a fan-restored version of the film in 2022.
1993’s live-action film Super Mario Bros. was historically the first feature-length live-action film based on a video game. Unlike Chris Pratt’s upcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie, it took extreme liberties with the source material, presenting a more gritty, zany approach to the Mushroom Kingdom. Although these liberties were lambasted by critics and the movie wound up failing at the box office, it has achieved cult status in retrospect and has several select fans who absolutely adore it.
The upcoming film features Chris Pratt as the elder of the two Super Mario Bros. It seems to be a more faithful rendition of the Mushroom Kingdom and Mario brothers universe.
The 2023 film boasts a star-studded cast with appearances from some all-star Mario characters, with Chris Pratt playing Mario, Charlie Day playing Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy playing Princess Peach, Jack Black playing Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key playing Toad, and Seth Rogen playing Donkey Kong. The trailer features some of these beloved characters and even teases an homage to the Mario Kart video game franchise, with Mario and crew speeding along a rendition of the iconic Rainbow Road from the video games.
Fans will soon be able to see Chris Pratt’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie when it releases in theatres on April 7, 2023. Until then, they can check out the Super Mario Bros. Plumbing website or one of the earlier films in the franchise, both of which are gems for fans of the Mushroom Kingdom.
