The very mention of Chris Pratt’s name is bound to pique someone’s interest. The context doesn’t really matter, either. The guy is a conversation starter. That’s mostly thanks to his role as Peter Quill/Starlord in the wildly popular Marvel Cinematic Universe, but his turn as the lovable Andy Dwyer in Parks and Recreation has also cemented itself in fans’ brains as one of the actor’s most memorable roles. Now, though, a new sci-fi movie starring Pratt is hitting streaming, and it is guaranteed to turn heads.
The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Amazon has officially closed a deal for a Chris Pratt-led sci-fi film titled The Tomorrow War. Not much is known about the film aside from some basic plot details and a few casting announcements. However, considering the fact that the movie is scheduled for release this summer, a trailer is probably on the way. Look out for it!
Lego Batman director Chris McKay has signed on to direct the film, which centers around time travelers arriving in the present to warn humans of a war in the future, a war they are on the verge of losing. In an effort to turn the tide in the conflict, these time travelers enlist civilians and soldiers to return to the future to help them fight this alien threat.
Joining Chris Pratt’s family man Dan Forester is Yvonne Strahovski and J.K. Simmons, who will be playing the main character’s estranged father. Betty Gilpin, Sam Richardson and Edwin Hodge are also set to star in the film.
Beyond those details, there really is not much out there about The Tomorrow War quite yet. It has been in the pipeline for a bit but plot stuff has mostly been kept on the down low. We probably won’t know much more about the movie before it hits Amazon later this year, but count on a trailer hitting the web in the coming weeks/months. And hey, at least we have another killer Chris Pratt performance to which we can look forward.
As far as sci-fi films go, this definitely will not be the actor’s first rodeo. Chris Pratt has also starred in Jurassic World and its sequel, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, as well as in the 2016 film Passengers alongside Jennifer Lawrence. He is also known for his roles in both of the Guardians of the Galaxy films (with a third on the way) and the final two Avengers movies. Coming up, he will be starring in the third Jurassic World film, subtitled Dominion.
Chris Pratt was already beloved by fans for playing the dopey Andy Dwyer in Parks and Recreation, but it was his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that catapulted him to superstardom. He plays the unofficial leader in Guardians of the Galaxy. Well, at least he did before Chris Hemsworth’s Thor shows up to “jokingly” challenge him for the title.
Originally scheduled for release during the 2020 holiday season, the Chris Pratt-led The Tomorrow War is now set to debut on streaming on July 2. Will you be watching it?
