A Chris Pratt Remake Of A Legendary Film Is Now A Streaming Success
Chris Pratt's The Magnificent Seven is a streaming hit on Amazon Prime.
The Magnificent Seven currently holds the number two spot on Amazon Prime. The data was revealed by FlixPatrol, a site that keeps track of streaming data across popular streaming platforms like Netflix, HBO, and even iTunes. Led by Chris Pratt, the movie is a reboot of the 1960s film, which was adapted from a 1954 Japanese film called Seven Samurai.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua from a screenplay by Nic Pizzolatto and Richard Wenk, The Magnificent Seven was released in 2016. Set in 1879, the story begins when a greedy industrialist named Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard) seizes control of Rose Creek in his quest to mine gold. To save their town, desperate residents turn to bounty hunter Sam Chisolm for help.
Chisolm (Denzel Washington) recruits Joshua Faraday (Chris Pratt), Goodnight Robicheaux (Ethan Hawke), Jack Horne (Vincent D’Onofrio), Billy Rocks (Byung-hun Lee), Vasquez (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) and Red Harvest (Martin Sensmeier) to take on Bogue and his accomplices. With a deadly showdown on the horizon, the mercenaries find themselves fighting for more than just money.
The Chris Pratt film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and served as the Venice Film Festival’s closer. The Magnificent Seven hit theaters a few weeks later, earning $162.4 million at the global box office against a budget of $90 million. Despite its financial success, the movie received mixed reviews from critics.
While the action sequences and performances from Chris Pratt and the cast were praised, critics said the story lacked originality. Still, The Magnificent Seven currently holds a 63 percent approval rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. The site’s general consensus describes it as a moderately diverting action thriller that doesn’t live up to its title or the classics from which it draws inspiration.
Away from his older work, Chris Pratt is preparing to release two major movies in 2023. The first is the Super Mario Bross. Movie directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel. The story sees Mario and Luigi venture into the Mushroom Kingdom to train for their battle against the villainous Bowser.
Along the way, the pair get caught up in a few epic side adventures. Led by Chris Pratt as Mario and Charlie Day as Luigi, the movie also features Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach. Jack Black appears as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Foreman Spike. The movie is set for release on April 7.
Chris Pratt will also reprise his role as Peter Quill in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The story takes place after the events of Thor: Love and Thunder as the team tries to turn Knowhere into a haven for alien refugees. When the planet is attacked, the Guardians embark on a dangerous mission to protect one of their own.
But the dangerous battle could lead to the end of the superhero team. Along with Chris Pratt, the movie sees Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, and Sean Gunn reprise their roles as Drax, Mantis, Nebula, and Kraglin, respectively. The Marvel movie will hit theaters on May 5.
