Exclusive: Chris Pratt Attached To Micronauts Movie
Paramount wants to bank off multiple movie trends with an upcoming feature about the most iconic toys from the grooviest decade. Our trusted and proven sources tell us that Chris Pratt is ready to lead a Micronauts movie for the same studio releasing Transformer films.
We’ve learned that Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3) will lead this upcoming Micronauts movie, but who the actor will portray remains a mystery. Will he be a time traveler, masked warrior, or everyone’s favorite character that came with its own Egyptian sarcophagus? Or, will Pratt simply be portraying the cliché Earthling caught up in what’s sure to be a battle of epic proportions?
What are Micronauts?
For those who were not fortunate enough to grow up playing with Micronauts, these popular figurines first blew up in Japan in 1974. They were created by the same company that brought us Transformer toys. Soon after, Mego bought the rights to sell Micronauts in the States.
After Mego’s bankruptcy and shuffling of rights to the toys, their popularity waned. Eventually, Hasbro picked up exclusive rights. Long before we learned of Chris Pratt’s involvement with the Micronauts, Hasbo made plans to give the figurings a feature film.
Two years after Hasbro and Paramount celebrated the box office success of Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox’s Transformers (2007), Paramount announced plans to release the Micronauts movie. At that time, there was no mention of a young Chris Pratt, but J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions was lined up to make the film.
We’ve exclusively learned that Chris Pratt will lead a Micronauts movie based on the popular 70s toy.
After suffering years in developmental hell, Paramount announced in 2019 (via Variety) that How to Train Your Dragon director Dean DeBlois would write and direct the film. It was set for a June 4, 2021 release, but Paramount would eventually scrap the title from its 2021 schedule.
As of now, we have no other information other than the knowledge that Dean DeBlois and Chris Pratt are involved with the Micronauts movie. Given Chris Pratt’s ability to lead massive blockbuster movies to box office riches, Paramount is surely happy with their ability to secure an A-list celeb of this stature.
Chris Pratt’s Big Screen Success
After winning over our hearts by portraying Andy Dwyer on NBC’s hit sitcom Parks and Recreation, Chris Pratt gained worldwide recognition when he joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Jurassic Park franchise.
In 2014, Chris Pratt debuted The Guardians of the Galaxy as Peter Quill, AKA Star-Lord, in the Marvel movie of the same name. One year later, he joined another sci-fi universe as Owen Grady in 2015’s Jurassic World. Both films set off a lucrative trilogy for the 44-year-old actor.
With Chris Pratt headlining the Micronauts movie, Paramount is likely seeking out other big-name Hollywood stars to join him. There is potential for the film to spawn yet another massive franchise in Hollywood, but that all depends on how well the movie performs.
Paramount has had a shaky history with Transformers over the past decade, but that isn’t stopping them from making more movies in that toy-turned-movie franchise. And the historic success of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie has proven that with the right formula, toys can succeed on the big screen.
Once we know more about Chris Pratt’s Micronauts movie, we’ll make sure you know.
