Chris Pratt Wants To Jump From Marvel To DCU
Things seem to be heating up with James Gunn’s DCU, as new photos from the set of his inaugural Superman film continue leaking onto the web. Now, Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy lead Chris Pratt claims he’d be more than happy to star in another film franchise under Gunn’s direction, effectively switching sides from Marvel to the DCU. Per a report in TMZ, Pratt even explained that he’s got no specific DC character in mind, and that he’d portray anyone on the roster if Gunn asked.
The James Gunn Connection
While Chris Pratt has not been confirmed to join the DCU lineup just yet, he has been on the rumored shortlist ever since Gunn first took over creative control of the Warner Bros-owned franchise. Like many beloved filmmakers, Gunn tends to work with a revolving door of repeat actors, leaving many fans to believe that the Guardians of the Galaxy cast will all appear in upcoming DC installments. Mantis actress Pom Klementieff recently confirmed that she was in talks with Gunn about joining the DC team, though she obviously hasn’t revealed who she’d be portraying just yet.
A Mass Marvel Exodus?
James Gunn is clearly highly favored by his close collaborators, as evidenced by the fact that so many members of the Guardians of the Galaxy team stepped up to defend the filmmaker when he was fired by Disney in 2018. Pom Klementieff and Dave Bautista were the most vocal performers to protest Gunn’s firing, though just about everyone in the Peacemaker director’s orbit had something positive to say on his behalf. Though Chris Pratt and company likely hold no true malice toward MCU executives, it seems clear that most of these actors would prefer to join Gunn’s DCU rather than continue their Marvel stead without him.
Doesn’t Have To Pick A Permanent Side
Still, TMZ says that Chris Pratt would be ready and willing to don his iconic Zune once more for the Disney franchise, proving that the A-lister has no real preference between MCU and DCU outings. In fact, Pratt could even serve as the conduit for a massive franchise crossover event should Gunn ever attempt to launch one. James Gunn has specified in recent months that the possibility of blending Marvel and DC franchises is higher than ever with him in charge of the latter, especially now that both continuities have experimented with the multiverse.
There’s Still Questions About Casting
For now, not much is known about the cast of the DCU outside of Gunn’s upcoming Superman film, which was previously titled Superman: Legacy. Though initial rumors suggested that Chris Pratt and other Marvel mainstays may join the movie’s cast, the DCU outing is confirmed to star David Corenswet, Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, Frank Grillo, Skyler Gisondo, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel‘s Rachel Brosnahan. The film is currently slated for a July 2025 release.
Chris Pratt Is A Busy Man
For now, Chris Pratt likely isn’t too worried about nabbing a front-and-center DCU role, as he is currently busy juggling over half a dozen projects in various stages of active production. The leading man recently appeared in voice roles for cartoons such as The Garfield Movie and The Super Mario Bros Movie, and currently has numerous projects slated for 2024 and beyond on IMDb.
