Someone is running amuck on the set of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Amuck, I say! The film’s director, James Gunn, is being harassed by an unknown member of the cast or crew who are dropping daily doses of Rick and Morty keychains on the filmmaker’s video monitor. Each day, Gunn has dealt with a new character from the beloved animated series in keychain form starting with Squanchy. Thinking it was a weird one off occurrence, Gunn carried on with his hard work behind the highly anticipated film until, low and behold, seemingly out of thin air, Mr. Meeseeks materialized. Since then, Mr. Poopybutthole, Snowball, and even Morty have appeared as Gunn began to turn to his cast, including Chris Pratt and Bradley Cooper, to get to the bottom of the mystery.

Keeping things light and bright on the set of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 should come as a surprise to no one that knows the cast. Along with comedy kings, Chris Pratt and Bradley Cooper, the film features the talents of Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, and Pom Klementieff, all possible suspects in the mystery of Rick and Morty-gate ™. Along with the possible cast infiltration, comes the just as high probability that it could be a member of Gunn’s crew behind the hijinks. Afterall, the director is known for bringing on many of his longtime collaborators for new projects. Could one of them be the Keychain Clipper ™?

All bets are off as there are tons of reasons why someone may want to keep a smile on Gunn’s face throughout the film’s production. A fan favorite franchise of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the third installment following the adventures of Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and his team of space traveling Guardians, will be, according to Gunn himself, “the last time” fans will go on a journey with “this team of Guardians.” Along with this sad announcement, Gunn also let fans know that the typical light and bright storylines the previous two films have been known for will not be what we can expect from the new picture. During an interview with Hero Nation Podcast, Gunn said that the film was “dark” and “different” from what we’ve seen so far. He also said that he was hoping to give the characters a proper send off and wished to remain “true” to all of them. He acknowledged that despite the task being “scary,” he plans to take his “best” shot at it.

Previous films have seen Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord as the leader of the Guardians with Saldana as the take-no-prisoners, Gamora, Cooper as the bad mouthing, anthropomorphic racoon, Rocket, Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Vin Diesel as the alien tree monster, Groot, and Klementieff as the empathic and straight shooting, Mantis. Heading out on countless missions across the stars (with the best playlist in the galaxy), the group of misfits have taken on some of the universe’s most challenging villains. Though we’ve seen the gang in tough situations, comedy has always taken the edge off, so it will be interesting to see what this new film brings.

With all of this background information, it’s easy to see why someone would be pranking James Gunn with Rick and Morty keychains. Although our money is on Chris Pratt, the question remains, who? And even more importantly, when will a Rick keychain reveal itself? For now, trust no one, and keep your eyes peeled for more information on Rick and Morty-gate ™.
