See Chris Pratt become Mario in the Super Mario movie teaser trailer.

At long last, Nintendo dropped the first look trailer showcasing Chris Pratt taking on the role of Mario in the Super Mario movie. However, the trailer came with far more than Pratt taking on the titular role. We got to see what Bowser looks like, and hear what Jack Black sounds like as the King of the Koopas. We have to be honest, Black might steal the show with his vocal capabilities alone, and the same can’t be said for Pratt.
Instead of starting with Chris Pratt, the Super Mario movie trailer starts with a hilarious scene of Bowser approaching a snowy land that is run by a race of penguins. The roar of Bowser’s flying mechanical fortress is heard as it sprays the area with lava bombs, and giant mace-like weapons strike the ground. The penguins do their best to attempt to stop Bowser, as their snowballs do nothing to the giant turtle king.
Jack Black speaks as Bowser, which sounds fantastic, as he melts the penguin base and takes the power star from them. We are then transported to what appears to be the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario is confused to be there, as he meets a toad that warns him of a mushroom, which could mean Chris Pratt’s version of Mario might not know of the magical kingdoms that exist in the Super Mario movie.
We only get to hear Chris Pratt voicing Mario in the trailer for the Super Mario movie for a brief few seconds, and honestly, we are disappointed. Mario sounds exactly like Pratt speaking, and we were hoping that there was going to be some sort of deviation happening. However, there is a slight moment when Pratt sounds like he might have an accent, which is something he has alluded to.
The trailer ends with Luigi on the run from some Dry Bones, which are skeleton enemies that have been around for many years in the Super Mario Bros franchise. Charlie Day voices Luigi and you can kind of hear his voice come out in the grunts from Luigi running, but not enough to determine how he sounds. However, it appears that Chris Pratt voicing Mario in the Super Mario movie might not be what everyone had hoped for.
Everyone on the internet had already been a bit confused as to why Chris Pratt had been chosen for the voice of Mario in the Super Mario movie, apart from him being a huge movie star. We know that he is popular, but Mario is something that sounds iconic, and the character sounding anything unlike the character in the video games is not going to be a hit with people. Still, we have only been given the teaser trailer, so maybe the full trailer will give us a better idea of how Pratt sounds.
Chris Pratt leads the Super Mario movie, which is set to debut on April 7, 2023. Joining Pratt are Jack Black, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Seth Rogen, Keegan-Michael Key, Fred Armisen, Sebastian Maniscalco, and Charles Martinet. The odd thing in this is Charles Martinet has voiced Mario for decades but was not chosen to voice Mario for the movie, though he has still been cast.
