Chris Pine Fans Can Watch His New Dungeons & Dragons Movie Early, Here’s How
Amazon Prime is offering an early screening of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves to Prime subscribers.
Most of us are going to have to wait until the very end of March — Friday March 31st to be precise — to see Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves in theaters. However, if you happen to be an Amazon Prime member, you could see the flick a whole lot earlier. Prime is offering its members a chance to see Chris Pine and fellow stars Hugh Grant, Michelle Rodriguez, Justice Smith and more save the Forgotten Realms close to two weeks earlier, on Sunday March 19th.
The offer is for a single showing at 2 pm local time in participating theaters across the United States. Nor will any Amazon Prime member need to go alone if for some reason they’re the only Prime subscribers they know. Members can buy up to 10 tickets for the March 19th showing.
Few franchises have had as rocky a road as Dungeons & Dragons in trying to adapt to the big screen, but the early word is that Chris Pine’s film has finally hit the sweet spot in terms of visual effects, high adventure, and laughs. Early reviews are praising Honor Among Thieves as the best fantasy movie in years. While the first trailer drew a lot of comparisons to Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, some reviewers have since likened it more to the classic The Princess Bride.
That’s no doubt good for Chris Pine who went from being attached to some of Hollywood’s most successful blockbuster franchises to having those connections, at the very least, called into question. His Wonder Woman character has died twice so far in the films, and at this point the possibility that there will even be any more movies in that particular franchise seems questionable. The same could be said of the Kelvinverse Star Trek films.
Chris Pine first took over the role of Captain Kirk from William Shatner in 2009’s Star Trek, and for a while it looked like we’d be getting the Don’t Worry Darling star in new Trek entries every few years. But after the underwhelming performance of 2016’s Star Trek Beyond, the franchise stalled and in spite of multiple attempts to get Star Trek 4 up and running — including one attempt, famously, by Quentin Tarantino — so far the big screen remains Trek-less.
If Honor Among Thieves does well, we’re almost guaranteed to get Chris Pine back for more Dungeons & Dragons films. So far, things look good for the fantasy flick. Along with the positive word of mouth that’s circulated so far, the weekend of its release Honor Among Thieves is the only blockbuster coming out.
John Wick: Chapter 4 comes out the weekend before Honor Among Thieves, though there will no doubt be more families headed to see Chris Pine & co. than the bloody revenge story starring Keanu Reeves. No, the biggest potential danger for Honor Among Thieves‘ opening weekend is if Shazam! Fury of the Gods — which will be on its third weekend at that point — is still going strong.
The Dungeons & Dragons adaptation will likely face some serious challenges on its second weekend however, as it will be wrestling with The Super Mario Bros. Movie which hits theaters the following Wednesday.
