Chris Hemsworth Blames Himself For One Of The Worst Marvel MCU Movies
Chris Hemsworth recently gave an extensive interview for his cover issue of Vanity Fair, where he talked about his regrets about Thor: Love and Thunder, amongst an array of other topics. Hemsworth told Vanity Fair, “I got caught up in the improv and the wackiness, and I became a parody of myself,” adding, “I didn’t stick the landing. It’s a sentiment that Hemsworth has expressed before, and one that many Marvel fans share about his most recent MCU outing.
Thor: Love and Thunder Disappoints
While Thor: Love and Thunder brought back the successful formula of Thor: Ragnarok by taking a lighter approach to the character under the direction of Taika Waititi, Love and Thunder leaned too hard into the comedy.
Ragnarok was beloved for its balance of comedy and character progression for Thor, whereas Love and Thunder fell short.
A Fifth Thor Movie Coming For Chris Hemsworth?
But Chris Hemsworth seems more than willing to make it up to fans, as he also said he would be willing to make a fifth Thor movie as long as it was “unpredictable” and that fans wanted it.
Needless to say, fans would certainly welcome Chris Hemsworth’s presence in the MCU again. In the meantime, Hemsworth is taking on what seems to be one of his most interesting roles yet.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga Is Next
Hemsworth will next appear as the villainous Dementus in the upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road prequel, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. Hemsworth is clearly excited about the role too, as he told Vanity Fair it was his favorite role since playing F1 racer James Hunt in Ron Howard’s 2013 film Rush.
No More Action For Chris Hemsworth?
After Furiosa, the question remains: what will be next for Chris Hemsworth? Hemsworth expressed to Vanity Fair that he’s also ready to try his hand outside of the action movie genre and work with prestige drama directors like Christopher Nolan, Kathryn Bigelow, Greta Gerwig, Martin Scorsese, and Steven Spielberg.
Perhaps he’ll get that wish sooner than later, as he also revealed that his Limitless producer Darren Aronfsky is developing two potential projects that Hemsworth could star in, with one being a dark comedy and another being a sci-fi.
Best Yet To Come?
In the meantime, hype is at an all-time high for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. The film will follow Anya Taylor-Joy as a young Furiosa (inheriting the role from Charlize Theron) as she finds herself in the middle of a conflict between two warring factions, one led by Lord Dementus and the other led by Immortan Joe.
If the film is as good as its predecessor, this could definitely be one of Chris Hemsworth’s best films yet.
Chris Hemsworth’s Future
We’ll have to wait until May 24 to see Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, but the film is set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, which kicks off on May 14. We’ll definitely be hearing about some early reactions to the film once it hits the Cannes Film Festival screen.
You can also look forward to hearing Hemsworth voice none other than Optimus Prime in the upcoming animated film Transformers One, which is set to hit theaters on September 20.
