Chris Hemsworth Eying Transformers GI Joe Crossover Sci-Fi Blockbuster
Fresh off his best performance yet in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, Chris Hemsworth may be buttoning up a deal to star in the untitled Transformers/GI Joe crossover movie that was teased in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
There isn’t currently a writer or director attached to the film, but it’s possible that Rise of the Beasts’ Steven Caple Jr. could return. Meanwhile, Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, Michael Bay, Tom DeSanto & Don Murphy are producing while Steven Spielberg and Hasbro Entertainment executive produce the film.
Chris Hemsworth Is Already Young Optimus
Before Chris Hemsworth stars in the upcoming Transformers/GI Joe crossover movie, he’ll make his debut in the Transformers universe as Optimus Prime in the upcoming animated Transformers One. According to Deadline, the movie is one of the highest-tested Paramount Animation films ever. The film follows Orion Pax and D-16, better known as Optimus Prime and Megatron, as best friends on Cybertron before they become sworn enemies.
Transformers One Looks Amazing
Transformers One features a star-studded voice cast that also includes Brian Tyree Henry as D-16/Megatron, Scarlett Johansson as Elita-1, Keegan Michael-Key as Bumblebee, Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime, and Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion.
Of course, if Chris Hemsworth joins the live-action Transformers/GI Joes crossover film, it seems likely that he’ll be playing one of the Joes while Peter Cullen reprises his role as Optimus Prime after voicing him in Rise of the Beasts and the previous live-action films. Presumably, Anthony Ramos will also return as a GI Joe after the tease at the end of Rise of the Beasts.
The Cross-Over Comic Fans Have Wanted For Decades
The end of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts saw Anthony Ramos’ character get an invitation to join the GI Joes, ramping up hype from fans of both toy franchises. With Chris Hemsworth’s extensive action experience, he would be a perfect fit for a character like Hawk, who is typically the commander of the Joes. While Dennis Quaid, now 70 years old, previously played Hawk in the live-action films, it seems likely that Paramount is going to want a younger cast that can carry the franchise forward.
Chris Hemsworth Is Getting Critical Praise
Chris Hemsworth’s Transformers/GI Joe crossover film could be a major blockbuster hit for the actor after Rise of the Beasts brought in a whopping $439 million at the box office last year. Hemsworth is also getting a ton of critical praise heaped on him at the moment after his turn as Dementus in George Miller’s Fury Road prequel, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.
Hemsworth gave a transformative performance as a charismatic and cruel villain, and his performance has frequently been cited as a highlight of a film that has a 90 percent from audiences and critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
Another Massive Franchise Under His Belt
Unfortunately, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is off to a bit of a rough start at the box office after underperforming during its opening weekend. This means not nearly enough people have seen Hemsworth’s best performance to date. If you’ve missed out on Furiosa and have yet to see Chris Hemsworth as Dementus, make sure to check it out in theaters, and we’ll keep you updated on the upcoming Transformers/GI Joe crossover.
