Exclusive: Chris Hemsworth Star Fox Movie In The Works
No, he’s not taking over from Harry Styles. Our trusted and proven sources tell us Chris Hemsworth is attached to voice Star Fox team leader Fox McCloud in an upcoming animated film. The movie will be produced by Illumination, the same studio behind The Secret Life of Pets series, the Sing movies, and the more recent The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
We’ve exclusively learned Chris Hemsworth is attached to play Fox McCloud in an animated Star Fox movie, produced by Illumination.
It’s surprising that it’s taken as long as it has for Chris Hemsworth or anyone else to get a chance to play the Star Fox hero. The first game in the franchise, Star Fox, released for the Super NES back in 1993. Aboard the Arwing, Fox McCloud commands his loyal crew of anthropomorphic heroes: Peppy Hare, Falco Lombardi, and Slippy Toad.
Considering the sheer number of games to release in the series between 1993 and 2016’s Star Fox Zero, the most recent game in the franchise — not counting Star Fox 2, which was completed in 1995 but wasn’t released until 2017 — it’s surprising the furry hero doesn’t already command his own big and small screen franchise. Even outside of the Star Fox games, characters from the series appear in other Nintendo series like Super Smash Bros.
In 2023, it’s tough to hear a story about a bunch of scrappy anthropomorphic space faring heroes and not think of Rocket Raccoon and his doomed test subject friends in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
The closest Chris Hemsworth’s future hero has come to a screen adaptation so far was in Star Fox Zero — The Battle Begins, a 14 minute animated short. In 2021 NintendoLife and others reported that CollegeHumor had been developing a Star Fox series, but that it was canceled when Netflix leaked plans of its take on The Legend of Zelda.
It’s tempting to speculate that Chris Hemsworth is familiar with the franchise whose success may have finally pushed a Star Fox film into active development. In 2023, it’s tough to hear a story about a bunch of scrappy anthropomorphic space faring heroes and not think of Rocket Raccoon and his doomed test subject friends in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Seeing how Rocket helped Marvel make bank one more time may have earned Star Fox its green light.
Chris Hemsworth, before we hear him in Star Fox, is still expected to show up in the upcoming Mad Max prequel Furiosa, currently in post-production.
The first game has Fox McCloud defending his home system of Lylat against the evil primate Andross. Considering Andross is the antagonist of all the entries in the franchise — with the sole exception of 2005’s Star Fox: Assault — it’s a good bet that Chris Hemsworth’s animated hero will likewise face off against Andross in the Star Fox movie.
We don’t know any release windows for the project, and if we did — between the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes and Hemsworth’s schedule — the dates wouldn’t be solid regardless. Chris Hemsworth, before we hear him in Star Fox, is still expected to show up in the upcoming Mad Max prequel Furiosa, currently in post-production. Then still waiting for the MCU star are Transformers One, Avengers: The Secret Wars, Mad Max: The Wasteland, and the upcoming Hulk Hogan biopic.
