Chris Hemsworth Reveals The Movie He’s Most Proud Of
Chris Hemsworth reveals the movie he is most proud of, is the upcoming Max Mad prequel, Furiosa.
Chris Hemsworth recently revealed that he is most proud of his work in the upcoming film Furiosa, directed by George Miller. In an interview with YouTuber Josh Horowitz, Hemsworth revealed that he had difficulty understanding his character when he first saw the screenplay, which was written while Mad Max: Fury Road was in production, which you can see in the video below:
According to Chris Hemsworth, he read the Furiosa script two years before filming began. He loved the script, but in the years before rehearsal began, he started to panic, worried that he’d bring down the Mad Max franchise because he couldn’t wrap his head around how to portray his character.
Thankfully for Chris Hemsworth, the rehearsals for Furiosa helped make things click, and he’s proud of the result. In a previous interview with Vanity Fair, he called his character a “very complicated, somewhat evil individual.” Hemsworth said that, as an actor, it was his job to find ways to empathize with the character. Part of that job involved figuring out how he’d personally justify the character’s evil actions since no individual truly believes themselves to be an evil person.
Furiosa, a prequel to the 2015 hit Mad Max: Fury Road, will feature the titular renegade warrior before she met the iconic apocalyptic hero Mad Max. Anya Taylor-Joy will play Furiosa, replacing Charlise Theron in the role. The role Chris Hemsworth will play in Furiosa has not officially been revealed, but it’s rumored that he will play the part of Warlord Dementus.
While it’s possible to dismiss these comments as a cynical attempt to promote an upcoming film, it’s worth noting that Chris Hemsworth’s next film isn’t Furiosa. Extraction 2 will release before Furiosa.
In a hilarious contrast to Chris Hemsworth’s comments on Furiousa, Hemsworth made jokes about the very existence of Extraction 2. The film is the sequel to a movie that ended with his character’s apparent death. Hemsworth referred to it as Extraction 2: Rake’s Not Dead, and lightly ribbed the movie’s creators for retconning the original movie’s dramatic ending after Extraction proved unexpectedly popular.
“That was crazy, that film.” Chris Hemsworth told Horowitz in the interview that he discussed Furiosa. “I don’t know, as you do. It’s like ‘What do we do now?’ Bigger!’ You know, ‘More!'”
In 2020, Netflix announced that Extraction turned out to be their most popular original movie of all time. The film brought in 99 million viewers in the first four weeks following its release. We would imagine that the sequel movie is set to put up the same kind of numbers when it releases.
While Extraction 2 is currently set to release in 2023, audiences won’t see Chris Hemsworth in Furiosa until sometime in 2024. This release date comes despite the fact that Furiosa finished filming in October of this year. Extraction 2 finished filming in April 2022.
Chris Hemsworth’s appearance in Furiosa might be two years away, but he’s still got two more films to work on in the meantime. Hemsworth is set to play Thor once again in the 2026 film Avengers: Secret Wars, and he also is set to play Hulk Hogan in an upcoming biopic.
