Chris Hemsworth Shares Disappointing Outlook On Thor’s Future
Chris Hemsworth has stated that Thor 5 could be his last time playing the character.
Chris Hemsworth is one of the last surviving Avengers, in that he is one of the only actors left from the main team in the MCU‘s greatest achievement in cinema so far. With Thor: Love and Thunder done it appears that the man is set to hang up his…Mjolnir. According to Hemsworth, “I feel like we’d probably have to close the book if I ever did it again, you know what I mean?”
While Chris Hemsworth has stated that he was not ready to let go of the Thor character, it appears that he has changed his mind regarding his Marvel future. He added, “You have this birth of a hero, the journey of a hero, then the death of a hero, and I don’t know—am I at that stage? Who knows?”
It is perfectly normal to want to retire from a character that you have played for over a decade. That is exactly what happened with Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark and Chris Evans as Captain America. It was time for them to walk away with the utmost dignity. While fans are going to be understandably upset about Chris Hemsworth leaving behind the God of Thunder, it might be time for him to focus on his other movies and shows.
According to Norse mythology, should Thor fall in battle, he will be welcomed into Valhalla. We do know Heimdall is there, and he welcomed Jane Foster to the celebration at the end of Thor: Love and Thunder, so it would be cathartic to see Chris Hemsworth join both in the Norse version of heaven. Tom Hiddleston also revealed that Loki is meant to pass the torch as well, but we are not sure if he is going to get a seat at the table based on the terrible things he has done in the past.
Taika Waititi directed the last two Thor features, and he has stated that he is likely not going to be back for Thor 5, though he stated he would return if Chris Hemsworth did. Waititi’s tune changed shortly after, but maybe Hemsworth could coax him to return for the final Thor chapter. Despite the last movie’s downfalls, Waititi has the right direction to end Hemsworth’s run as Thor on a beautiful note.
Chris Hemsworth could be back for Thor 5 in the future, but that also does not mean he won’t be back for Avengers: Secret Wars. The highly anticipated Marvel title is set to bring in multiple multiversal versions of each character, so Hemsworth could be brought back for one final epic Thor moment. Either that, or we get the Luke Hemsworth version of Thor, which would be hilarious.
Chris Hemsworth deserves his time to explore other projects, and he is doing so currently, as his new series on Disney+ is something completely different than what he has ever done. Hemsworth tests his body and mind in a series called Limitless, where he engages in super dangerous stunts that explore the limits of human capabilities. When he is ready to hang up Thor, he will go out a hero, much like the rest of the original Avengers cast.
