Chris Evans Is Terrified Of Hosting Saturday Night Live
Chris Evans admits he's scared to host Saturday Night Live.
Chris Evans may be able to take on world-ending threats like Thanos, but apparently, he’s terrified of hosting Saturday Night Live. The Hollywood Reporter reported on the Captain America actor’s recent interview with ET Canada, where he admitted, “I’ve avoided hosting SNL like the plague for years now just because I’m so scared.” However, he did indicate he’s not opposed to showing up on the sketch comedy series altogether, replying, “Well, now a cameo I can handle,” when asked if he’d be up for a surprise appearance.
Chris Evans was doing his interview with his Ghosted co-star Ana de Armas, who has no such qualms about hosting Saturday Night Live. In fact, she’ll be hosting this Saturday with guest music star Karol G. Maybe after the interview de Armas was able to convenience her co-star to make that cameo offer a reality.
It is sort of amazing that Chris Evans hasn’t hosted Saturday Night Live yet, considering his time in the MCU has made him one of the biggest movie stars in the world. Plenty of his fellow Marvel co-stars have taken on the comedy hosting gig in the past. SNL has been hosted by Marvel heroes like Robert Downey Jr, Don Cheadle, Chadwick Boseman, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Simu Liu, Chris Hemsworth, and Paul Rudd.
Later on in the interview, Chris Evans went on to say his anxiety about appearing on Saturday Night Live might partially stem from some previous comments from friends, saying, “Maybe I only feel that because I have very, very funny friends who once told me I’m not a funny person.” While Evans might be unsure about an SNL appearance, there’s little doubt that fans would love to see him take on the gig. Maybe if he appears in a cameo and gets some laughs, he’ll be inspired to go for the real thing next time.
Even if Chris Evans changes his mind about Saturday Night Live, we’d have to wait until at least next season to see him host. The upcoming Ana de Armas-hosted show will be the season closer for the 48th season. Of course, we should see the show return again for its 2023-2024 season, so Evans still has plenty of opportunities to overcome his fear.
In the meantime, we’ll get to see Chris Evans and future Saturday Night Live host Ana de Armas in the upcoming film Ghosted, which is coming out on April 21. The Apple TV+ film follows a man named Cole (Evans) who falls in love with a mysterious girl named Sadie (de Armas), who turns out to be a secret agent. Dexter Fletcher directs the film, which also stars Amy Sedaris, Adrien Brody, Tim Blake Nelson, Marwan Kenzari, Lizze Broadway, Fahim Fazli, and Mustafa Shakir.
Chris Evans may not have Saturday Night Live on his docket for 2023, but we should see two more films from him before the year is over. Evans also has the films Pain Hustlers and Red One set for a 2023 release date. Pain Hustlers will star Emily Blunt and is set to come out on October 27, while Red One co-stars Dwayne Johnson and Lucy Liu but has yet to announce an official release date.
