Chris Evans may be done kicking domestic and cosmic butt as Captain America in the MCU, but things are still just as messy for the actor in his newest role. Just a few days ago, the Knives Out star took to Instagram to give his followers a look at a day in his life. Slicked back hair and a white t-shirt are a usual look for the actor, but wait… is that blood on his face? And even more importantly, is that a mustache?! Both would be correct.
Smiling at the camera with a face covered in blood, we’d say the most noticeable and fear-inducing thing is the thick stache Chris Evans is rocking for his performance in The Gray Man. Fellow actress and reality TV star, Jamie Chung even chimed in the comments, teasing Evans about his facial hair, and asking if the stache would have its “own credit in the movie.” Maybe it can even accept an award – it’s truly a thing of beauty.
An Anthony and Joe Russo-directed film, The Gray Man will tell the story of CIA top mercenary, Court Gentry (Ryan Gosling). A longtime soldier and lover of America, Gentry’s heart is broken when he begins to peel back the layers of some terrifying government secrets. It’s then that Chris Evans’ bad guy, Lloyd Hansen steps in. Gentry and Hansen used to work together and have had quite the colorful frenemy-ship. Ready to take matters into his own hands, Hansen places a bounty on Gentry’s head and launches a sadistic hunt to take out his peer with the aid of some of the most ruthless assassins he could find.
The Netflix film is pulling its story from Mark Greanery’s novel of the same name which was published in 2009. Joe Russo penned the feature’s screenplay alongside Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely with the Russo brothers’ AGBO set to produce. Slated for a limited release on July 15 before beginning its permanent streaming on Netflix on July 22, the film boasts a crazy lineup of stars. Along with Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling, The Gray Man will also feature the talents of Ana de Armas, Regé-Jean Page, Jessica Henwick, Dhanush, Billy Bob Thornton, and Alfre Woodward, with Wagner Moura, Julia Butters, Callan Mulvey, Eme Ikwuakor, Scott Haze, Michael Gandolfini, Sam Lerner, Robert Kazinsky, and DeObia Oparei.
Can’t wait until July to catch Chris Evans on the big screen? The actor will next be seen – or rather heard – in Disney’s Lightyear which will release in June. Acting as an origin story for everyone’s favorite alien-fighting space ranger, Evans will be the voice behind Buzz Lightyear in the animated film. He also has some other irons in the fire including a sequel to Knives Out; an untitled film centered around legendary performer, Gene Kelly; an action movie titled Bermuda, and a holiday feature titled Red One alongside The Rock. There’s also some news surrounding his involvement in a remake of the classic musical-turned-movie, Little Shop of Horrors in which he would *possibly* star alongside ex-Marvel pal, Scarlett Johannson. We’re especially keeping our fingers crossed for that last one! It sounds so cute, it makes the theater kid in all of us giddy with excitement!
As for now: Covered in blood? Check. Thick mustache? Check. Those are all the makings of a murderous and crazed bad guy, and it looks like Chris Evans is pulling it off rather well. Although we’ve seen him in some evil-leaning roles, this one will be a serious departure from the way we’re used to catching Evans in most of his flicks. It’s always a treat when someone you’ve watched protect the innocent for years and years takes on a completely different vibe and instead becomes the one that needs to be stopped and we’re excited to see how Evans – and his mustache – lean into the role.
