Marvel Rebooting Chloe Bennet’s Quake As A Mutant?
An insider has heard that when Marvel brings Chloe Bennet back to play Quake, she'll be a mutant this time around.

Fans of the television series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. know Chloe Bennet as the actress who played Quake in the series. The character started off as a hacker in season one, but by season two she was a superhero with the ability to manipulate vibrations. While her character was pulled from the Marvel comics, in those stories her character had mutant origins. This was changed for the television series where her origin story explained that she was an Inhuman. Now, according to sources for Geekosity, Marvel is interested in rebooting Chloe Bennet’s character. When they do, Quake will be a mutant.
This information adds to the story we’ve been hearing already for Quake. Several months ago, we reported that Marvel wants to bring Chloe Bennet’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. back for their new Disney+ series, Secret Invasion. Then, a few days ago, we heard from our sources that the studio is gearing up for a reboot of sorts. They’re not going to bring back the original show, exactly. Instead, what we were able to gather was that they’re going to bring back some of the fan-favorite characters from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to appear in other, new, Marvel Cinematic Universe properties. Audience members who never saw the characters before will be newly introduced to them. Fans of the old show will still see and recognize the characters, even if there are some slight changes to them during the reboot.
In the case of Quake, Geekosity hears that the main change will be Chloe Bennet’s character’s origin story. Adjusting her history to make her a mutant makes sense, in the scheme of things. We know that Marvel is working on bringing the X-Men more into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so more mutants makes sense. This was true of her character from the comics in the first place. Making this slight adjustment will better bring Quake into where the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going and will give Chloe Bennet more opportunities to appear in more Marvel properties in the future.
There won’t be a laborious story that explains this new change to her character. While Quake will essentially be the character that Chloe Bennet has already established and fans want to see, what we are hearing (and Geekosity as well) is that while the characters from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be the ones audiences know, they’ll be treated as new. All of their actions from the past series won’t be treated as canon for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
This news seems to be backed up by some of Disney+’s recent decisions, including moving Agent Carter and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe collection in their streaming catalog. Did they do this because they’re getting ready for the soft reboot of these characters? Did that bring their attention to refining their storylines in the MCU?
This news comes at a big time for Chloe Bennet, who was just recently cast in a Powerpuff Girls pilot for The CW. Hopefully, we’ll be seeing announcements about Quake joining Secret Invasion soon.
