For those of you who are wondering where Venom 3 is in regard to its development, we have some exciting news for you! According to The Direct, Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) has been signed on for a role in the upcoming Sony film. At this phase of development, however, we’re not sure what kind of role he will be taking.

But we’re hoping that Chiwetel Ejiofor will portray a villain in the final installment of the Venom threequel. Though Venom 3 is slated to begin filming from June through September 2023, the film is still in the pre-production phases at this time. But we’re excited nonetheless because Tom Hardy has gone on record teasing that this third Venom installment will be Eddie Brock’s “last dance,” meaning that the trilogy will most certainly go out with a bang.

Though we don’t know whether Chiwetel Ejiofor will be portraying a villain or some entirely different character, we have reason to believe that he would make an excellent antagonist in the upcoming film. Considering how great of a job he did as secondary antagonist Karl Mordo in Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it only makes sense that he will take on a more sinister role in Venom 3. Given Chiwetel Ejiofor’s range, it’s safe to say that he will not only add a whole new layer of nuance to Venom 3 but also use his past experience from the MCU to deliver the goods.

That is to say, Chiwetel Ejiofor’s portrayal of Karl Mordo in Doctor Strange had a lot of depth that we didn’t previously see in Marvel films. In other words, Mordo wasn’t always the bad guy, but his inability to cope with The Ancient One’s moral contradictions pushed him (or well, a version of him) into villainous territory in Multiverse of Madness, which will probably be explored further should a third installment of the Doctor Strange films get a similar threequel treatment.

As of now, Marvel doesn’t have any plans to put out a third Doctor Strange installment any time soon. Although it has been rumored that Marvel Studios is fast-tracking a Doctor Strange 3, nothing has been confirmed as of yet. Sources indicate that we won’t see this kind of threequel treatment until 2025 or 2026, which means that we’ll be well into Phase 6 of the MCU at that point in time.

In the meantime, we’re beyond excited about this development, and we’ll surely keep our finger on the pulse in anticipation of further updates for Venom 3. But we’re holding out hope that Chiwetel Ejiofor will take on the role of Knull, the god of darkness and the creator of the symbiotes. We can’t think of any other way to conclude the Venom trilogy than pushing this franchise into a territory of ultimate darkness.

Alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor, we will see Tom Hardy reprise his role of Eddie Brock, and Juno Temple (Ted Lasso), who also has an undisclosed role at this phase of development.
